Rick Santorum is an idiot, a bigot, and morally inconsistent...

So all criticisms of President Obama are off the table as well? Just don't vote for him, but please don't speak of it in a politics forum? Or does this only apply to Republicans?

If you just want to do some mud slinging, go right ahead, it's silly and infantile but if that helps you get through the day, but at the end of the day, if you don't like the guy, just don't vote for him.

There's so much whining about Republicans these days, you'd think they hare in the White House.

I don't want people to vote for him. Why do we have a politics forum? Why not everybody just vote as they see fit and we won't have a discussion of the merits of policies and politicians.

Santorum should NOT be a viable candidate at all. That he is taken seriously at all is problematic for me. If the GOP is going to advance hateful and hurtful candidates that provide legitimacy for this insanity then they are grist for my mill.

I'm fairly certain you don't share many of his values. Why defend him at all? I'm sorry he brings stink onto the Republican party then I can understand that and respect it.

It is what it is though.

In another thread we have had months of "ocutards". We all got a laugh out of that even though it was just a lot of anecdotes. So hey, if we can laugh at OWS then we damn sure can laugh at this idiot who has been given a public platform.

First of all, this is a politics forum. It exists to gripe about politicians. Second, you evaded my question. Do you plan to pop over to the Obama bashing threads and tell them to shut up and wait until November 2012 to voice their displeasure?

Aren't they running for office?

Look, if the GOP wasn't fielding a candidate I would take that to heart. I still reserve the right to mock any politician (isn't that what the 1st Amendment was for in the first place?) but I'd grant you the point.

Effectively, by blocking all legislation that isn't supportive of a right-wing christian state, they are.

So, are we supposed to not point out that Republicans are deliberately, intentionally, maliciously making the economy worse, creating more misery, and doing their best to make everyone's life miserable, just so they can try to get elected?

Just don't vote for him, how hard can that be?

That's pretty disingenuous. Don't like somebody? Don't vote for him. Don't vote for Vladimir Putin. Don't vote for Kim Jong Il. Come on now, if somebody is bad, you speak out against him, even if you can't (or in addition to) deny him your vote.

And Rick Santorum (I usually don't rename politicians, but I can't resist the Sick Rantorum spoonerism) is a politician that needs to be spoken out against in addition to not voting for him, even if you could.

Frankly, I think Americans can and should do more than just letting their ballot talk for them. They should take positions, publicly and vocally. And I'm guessing you do the same, Pardalis, when it is somebody you feel strongly about.

I am a little confused at some of the earliest responses to RandFan's post.

Even if you disagree with what RandFan is saying, it doesn't seem particularly outrageous or whiney. It seems like a pretty typical politics thread, a part of the JREF forum where we often complain about certain politicians.

If we express our disapproval of politicians at the ballot box only, then we can just get rid of this entire part of the JREF forum...

Well, many of them WANT to be in the White House.

Also, there are other political offices other than President, and I believe there are a few Republicans there.
