The Wicked Witch of the West and Obamacare

We've gotten side-tracked by all this nonsense about Terri Schiavo's empty cranium.

I'm curious if Robert can explain why it is the most of the nations of Europe, as well as Canada, haven't voted to disband their national healthcare programs, if such programs are so truly horrible.

RB has everyone here on a string and he's making you all dance. It's both amusing and sad to watch. His threads remind me of similar ones in the 9/11 CT forum, only less intellectually stimulating.

Keeping feeding him though, even trolls need to eat.

Socialism has a way of committing suicide all by itself.Witness Greece, Italy, and much of the rest of socialist Europe. Sure, they want all the benefits, but they simply can't afford to pay for them any more. Thus, riots in the streets, coming soon to a US town near you. Ooops, I guess they've already arrived.

Without trolls there would be almost no forum.

Yeah it has nothing to do with bad securities fraudulently created, credit default swaps and sovereign wealth sloshing around at all.

There is plenty of socialism that still exists all around you.

You remind me of that old vaudeville joke: The act before mine was so bad, the audience was still booing when I got off stage.

The countries of Europe with extensive national health plans, which are not socialist but have a capitalist system, with its incentives, have had their medical systems for decades. Curiously, they seem to spend less and get more than the United States does. As has already been noted by Dancing David (post # 587), the crisis in Europe and the U.S. was the result of insufficient oversight and regulation, resulting in rash policies by banks and others in search of quick profits.

Baloney. The crises in socialist Europe is caused by socialism.

And the crisis in the US was caused by?

Oh that's right, capitalists looking for short term profits with no eye to if the matter was sustainable, ignoring regulations, and making sure that any regulators were suitably toothless.

Baloney. The crises in socialist Europe is caused by socialism.

The crisis in Europe was caused by taxes being too low to deal with this severe an economic downturn, and then stick-stone-bone stupid conservatives stand in the way of raising them.

The downturn was caused by years and years of deregulation of the financial sector and precipitated by oil getting to the region of $150/bbl. At that level, all commodity price relationships change and you have chaos.

A measure of the actual wealth of a nation is the number of joules of energy used per citizen. Make the energy so dear that it stops being used, and your wealth drops proportionately. The world was on tract to do something about that in the early 1980s, but then conservatives tore down all the research and build out that was in progress then, leaving it to the future (us) to pay the price.

That is what we see here;

A perfect storm of conservative unwillingness to fund alternates to fossil fuel, conservative deregulation of all manner of shady financial dealings, and conservative truculence when called upon to pay their bills by being taxed.

So bad securites that were fraudulently issues by US firms had noting to do with it?
Credit default swaps had noting to do with it?
Countrywide altering loan applications and forging signatures had nothing to do with it?

Riiiiiight...

What are you referring to? Their healthcare system caused the economic crisis? What specifically are you referring to because socialism is a big net to cast.

It's caused by governments not funding its liabilities. We're doing that too. In fact, our "socialist" type programs, are currently funding our non-socialist programs.

Healthcare is a big part of it but includes a whole range of something for nothing socialist policies:

Flashing Red: European Debt Crisis Signals Collapse of Social Welfare State

"For decades now, one of the most tragic costs of the European welfare state has been Europe’s structural unemployment, especially among the young, combined with welfare payments that turned unemployment into an acceptable—even desirable—status, while stripping those affected of their dignity and sense of responsibility. The recent riots in the U.K. are an ominous reflection of this failure....

One of the key questions now is: How much longer will workers and taxpayers in Germany and other relatively more fiscally prudent countries in northern Europe be willing to work into their late 60s to subsidize (via eurozone bailouts and managed defaults) their neighbors in southern Europe so that the latter can retire early in their 50s on generous state-funded pensions and go to the beach?"

Green Energy Follies

How many hundreds billions or trillions have already been stolen from taxpayers to fund the economic folly of alternatives to fossil fuels?

Riddled with errors and opinion masquerading as fact. For example:

Brussels’ lack of control over social spending

Social welfare policies are controlled at national, not EU level, and Brussels has very little input.
