3 rules to happiness

These are the three keys to happiness:

1. Your Spouse. Most important decision of your life. Your spouse or significant other. Of all the most important decisions imaginable, nothing is more important than this and unfortunately, this decision must be done at a time when you are young and inexperienced. Looks always fade, but personality is for a lifetime. I have been married three times and my early life was a living hell. I finally married someone for inner beauty and man did it pay off. No fighting. Laughter every day. I get on my knees and thank Goodness that I have her in my life and I want everyone to experience this kind of happiness. And I am an atheist, she a devout Jehovah Witness. And somehow it works.

2. Become a vegetarian, better yet a vegan. Sounds wierd, but its true. When your healthy, your happy. Heart disease would be extinct if we all were vegans. Obesity would be rare. We are killing ourselves and worse than that, we are chronically ill for much of our later years...due to our overindulgance in meat, dairy, oil, simple carbs. I really never believed in being a vegan until I saw "The Last Heart Attack" special on TV. It was based on Dr. Cauldwell Essyslstein's book. He claims that you can completely prevent heart disease and even reverse and treat heart disease with a vegan diet. So does Dr. Cornish and many other medical experts are slowly getting on the bandwagon. After being a vegan for a while I lost 25 pounds, ate all I wanted, and feel so good at 53 I almost feel guilty. And thanks to my arteries not being so blocked I no longer have a problem making my sexy wife happier too.

3. Be unselfish. At first glance, being selfish seems like the smart thing to do. Making money, chasing women, buying myself nice things, impressing others with my accomplishments. But in the end, all that is an empty feeling and does not lead to happiness. Being faithful to my partner, giving to charities, helping a neighbor in need... it leads to happiness in a big way. I guess when we stray from reality we get hurt and being unselfish must have some basis in reality. Reality does say some day we die and we are ultimately expendable,,,spend as much time as you can thinking of others and as little time as you can thinking of some expendable entity such as yourself and even though you shouldn't want a reward,,,, in the end you get a nice reward,,,,its called just being happy.

Peace out.

Platitude

"A platitude is a trite, meaningless, biased, or prosaic statement, often presented as if it were significant and original. "

Your statements are essentially platitudes. You may think they are profound but they are just personal points of view.

1. Marriage

If your marriage works, hurrah. It means nothing to the rest of us since individual requirements for both happiness and relationships vary from person to person.

2. Vegan

Fine if you feel great. I've tried various vegetarian diets and they didn't work for me. I train fairly intensely and I don't seem to get enough from a vegetarian diet to keep the energy level up and protein is always a high requirement.

3. Unselfishness

Making money, chasing women, buying myself nice things, impressing others with my accomplishments. But in the end, all that is an empty feeling and does not lead to happiness. Being faithful to my partner, giving to charities, helping a neighbor in need... it leads to happiness in a big way

For you.

All you statements are just anecdotes. If you want to post something in a skeptic's forum, bring some evidence or ... well.. this will happen.

:)

One is inclined to invoke Taoism, which essentially states that we should follow our nature, whatever that may be...

Or as we used to say in the 60s..."different strokes for different folks."

Then you didn't do it right.

1. I agree with you. A lifetime relationship with a woman constitutes a huge part of your life and can be one of the most rewarding things you can do.

2. I agree in the sense of eating a healthy diet in general. I was a veggie, but found that it didn't quite do it all the way for me. My diet consists mainly vegetarian dishes, but an occasional steak tastes very good. I have a friend who is a raw food advocate and he is in remarkable condition for a guy who is 60. He and I jokingly go back and forth about the best diet. Whenever he pokes fun at me for eating meat, I tell him I'm an onmivore...I eat anything.

3. I practice a similar philosophy in that I try to be kind and personable and I find a sense of satisfaction helping other people when it is appropriate. Money can't buy that, at least not all of it.

I would add that part of my secret to living a happy life is something an old man taught me that he called the secret to a good life:

1. Find something you are passionate about and gives you joy and satisfaction.

2. Find a way to make a comfortable living, something you don't mind doing and satisfaction. Stay away from jobs that can become a vexation to your soul.

3. If number's 1 and 2 are the same, you are one of luckiest people alive.

Have a good life and keep doing the things that feel right to you.

Holy you-know-what, I cannot imagine a healthy relationship with a jw.

I hope you have executed a medical power of attorney for yourself and your kids, to someone else who will allow you life-saving medical care if needed.

The true secret to happiness is to unleash your inner monkey. Yeah, that monkey. That little voice in your head, that urges you to do the really fun things. Go ahead, do it! Live a little! Poop upon the chandelier! Screech in your boss's face! Burn down those buildings!! You know you want to. Only then will you be truly happy. Trust me. My inner monkey says you should.
