Group Tries To Recruit Sarah Palin To Presidency

You are comparing apples to oranges--a presidential nominee after the convention to nomination candidates prior to the convention. My point is that at a comparable time in the last election cycle, the Democratic base supported a guy who was incompetent (Edwards).

Which explains why Edwards won the Democratic nomination for president in 2008... oh, wait.

Since the topic of competence has come up, I think it is fair to say that Obama has for more competent experience at being POTUS than any of his potential challengers. You know, seeing as how he's been doing the job for the last 3 years. This fact is one of the reasons why so many presidential incumbents have an electoral advantage when the run for a second term.

Perry is a different case; he at least had the appearance of being a realistic candidate until he tried his hand at debating, at which point his support evaporated.
Was that when he was running around the country shouting SECEDE!!

Just want to know what qualifies one as a realistic candidate.

JREF liberals and leftists pray the Republicans will somehow save the floundering Obama presidency.

Actually, Obama is too conservative for my taste, but better than the alternative.

I hope she gets the nomination for the humour. She's a boon to comedians, giving them a huge amount of material.

Sigh. Nobody ever reads the whole thread to see how the discussion started. To rewind the tape, Elbe said:

I'm pretty liberal and I'd much rather the Reps run a competent candidate than a joke. It seems, however, that the GOP base disagrees with that. I find that sad.

So I said that at a comparable point in the 2008 election cycle, the Democratic base supported John Edwards.

From memory I recall knowing left leaning women who preferred Edwards in the early days, but that may have just been his hair.
