On the evidence of moving continents

I guess they thought the Dodo wasn't one of God's creatures.

They did. Originally the idea was that God wouldn't allow His creations to die out, but later that it violated Uniformitarianism because it was too fast. That idea really held sway until 1981, I believe, when Louis and Walter Alvarez demonstrated that either the K/Pg boundary was a few tens of millions of years long, all over the world, and had the same depositional rate all over the world, or it was a LOT faster than was originally thought.

J. Harlan Bretz argued for a flood in the Channeled Scablands, and was soundly thrashed by geologists at the USGS in 1923, and onwards for 40 years. He finally won his case in the 60s, and was awarded the Penrose medal in 1979, at the age of 96. To his son: "All my enemies are dead, so I have no one to gloat over." The issue was, of course, uniformitarianism.

No problem!

See, dodos were exterminated by humans. God made the beasts for humans to use them as they please. So, if humans used their free will to get rid of them silliy dodos, too bad for the stoopid birds. Same is valid for Tasmanian Tigers and other animals. It's human's rights, brought by God to use nature as we please.

I have always found that idea perverse and disturbing.
