It looks as if Tea Party favorite Gov. Scott Walker is in trouble in Wisconsin...

Effort to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker more than halfway to goal
The Republican Party of Wisconsin rejected reports by organizers on Monday that the effort to recall Gov. Scott Walker has been a resounding success. But a major tea party group contradicted the party's message.

United Wisconsin, the organization behind the recall, announced Monday that supporters collected more than 300,000 signatures to recall the governor in the first 12 days of the drive, placing them more than halfway toward their goal of 540,208 signatures--the number required to be gathered by Jan. 17 to permit a recall election. ...

Based upon this news and all of the momentum out of Ohio, I think Gov. Walker's in for a rude awakening.

Hey Wildcat, didn't we have an avatar bet on this? :D

"There is no way to independently verify the group's signature count because the petitions will not become public unless it turns them in to state election authorities.

But even if it hits its target early, the group still plans to turn the signatures in on the last day, Jan. 17, said Meagan Mahaffey, United Wisconsin's executive director."

Good luck.

On the way to MI over the holiday we saw a few WI plates with "Recall Walker" stickers, and we were surprised. I am astounded this is getting that much traction.
How many times did you sign the petition Ben?

This isn't at all unusual. In every situation where petition signatures are being gathered that I've seen, the standard procedure is to turn them all in as close to the deadline as possible to maximize the number of signatures. Part of that is for political impact (the numbers can pack a punch, as the OP suggests), and part is because many times the validity of signatures is challenged and some are inevitably kicked off the petition. So you want way more than necessary to insure the petition goes through, which means taking more time to gather said signatures.

Just providing some clarification.

I cannot adequately articulate how tired I am of recall elections. Is it not bad enough that our elected officials already spend half their time campaigning for their next term? Do we really want to get to the point where they have to spend their whole term on the campaign trail?

Is waiting for the next election to dump an unpopular candidate really that big a burden?

Walker has threatened the sacred cycle of: taxpayer $ --> public sector unions --> Democrat campaigns --> Democrats funneling more taxpayer $ to public sector unions.

He must therefore be made an example of. So no, they cannot wait for the next election - that may allow some positive news to escape instead of nonstop "Fitzwalkerstan" and "sobbing teacher eats cat food" stories.

Exactly, the goal is to eliminate $'s for Democrats. God Bless America and the Republicans that made her great.

Yes, it is too long to wait, because the long Il Duce is there, the more damage he can do to the state and the more time the next governor will have to spend fixing what the little whacktard screwed up during his interregnum.

If we can get double the needed signatures could we have him nailed to something?

Recall is a withdrawal of consent. Very simple, really. And in line with core American principles.

And the Wisconsin constitution, which was ratified by the legislature, elected from the people of Wisconsin.
