Merged The Perry meltdown

Does anyone else recall the other day when Perry said that he should have skipped the debates?

Well, at least now we know at least one reason that he would like to skip the debates.

;)

Frankly, I don't think Perry ever was a viable candidate for a national election. He enjoyed a brief bump in the polls for being "someone else", and that's about it. I think his role in the execution of a man for a capital crime that never happened (the fire was not arson) is enough to give him no end of troubles on the national stage. (It's a bit alarming that there are parts of the country where this is not considered a problem.)

I dunno, I was only four at the time: not only did I not vote, I thought he was one of the Muppets.

Well.........

Off topic, but it's funny you mention this. Just this morning I began writing a report on junk science in arson investigations for my Criminalistics degree. Cameron Todd Willingham was the subject.

I never get this teleprompter meme. The Obama I recognise is the one who gave a competent, long and detailed Q&A session in front of the House Republicans last year without the need of a teleprompter.
Obama is good without a teleprompter, but stammers a bit, with pauses, "umms," etc. He is terrific with the teleprompter. This gap is what the smaller minds see as proof that he can only speak with a teleprompter. Never mind that he was better than Bush extemporaneously as well.

I wonder what they would call him i he was brilliant extemporaneously...I mean, "Slick Willie" was already used.

I think CNN screwed the pooch there.

At the debate, Perry was facing Texas Rep. Ron Paul when he started to answer the question.
"I will tell you, it is three agencies of government when I get there that are gone," Perry said. "Commerce, Education, and the -- what's the third one there? Let's see. Okay. Commerce, Education, and the..."
"EPA?" Mitt Romney offered.
"EPA, there you go," Perry said.

It was Paul who trolled him. First Perry said 3 agencies, and then he looked over at Paul while trying to name the the third, and Paul said "5" - Then Paul suggested "EPA" .... very helpful of Paul :D
Yeah, he could have had a lot of fun with that.

Once when I was a teenager, my sister was talking on the phone to her boyfriend and she was describing a monster movie that featured a giant octopus. My sister said, "Then the octopus grabbed the building in his... his... um..."
"Testicles," I suggested.
"Yeah, testicles," she repeated.
I could hear the snort on the other end of the line all the way across the room.

I don't think she ever forgave me for that.

How many States in the Union?
That was my thought, too. No, this particular brain fart is getting blown out of proportion. It's minor and doesn't say anything to the man's ability to be a good President.

What he was saying when he had the brain fart concerns me much more.

How many States in the Union?

BTW- Anyone have a picture of Obama visiting the 56th one? No? The 57th? :D
That was a slip of the tongue. All people do that. Most of Ronald Reagan's gaffes were similar. I do it a lot. It is completely different from pausing for a whole minute because you cannot remember your own economic plan.

But if you want to bring up gaffes by Obama, you might fill a page. GW Bush and Dan Quayle had whole books of them.

And during which debate did that occur?

Debates are prepared for (or at least are supposed to be). They are rehearsed. It's theater. There are no surprise questions unless your campaign staff sucks at its job. There are no real off the cuff remarks where gaffes are easily dismissed. They are getting up in front of the class and they should be prepared.

Or any politician for that matter.
Make no mistake, not a fan of Perry. Have you read the recent Rolling Stone article?

You guys and your fancy nuances and all. Even a town full of dogs can't understand that!

Convicted on really bad arson investigation. Almost no doubt that he DIDN'T do the crime.
