i'm surprised theres not a national holiday so everyone can tune in to such an earth shattering world changing event. I mean its right up there with the moon landings /end sarcasm

Perugia, Italy (CNN) -- Nearly four years after she was arrested on suspicion of having killed her roommate in this picturesque Italian university town, Amanda Knox got one last chance Monday to persuade a jury she didn't do it.
"People always ask who is Amanda Knox? I am the same person I was four years ago. But I have lost a friend. I have lost my faith in Italian police. I am paying with my life for something I have not done. Four years ago I didn't know what suffering was," Knox said, delivering her statement in Italian.

Note that she speaks in the 3rd person. Note that she is a "person" not a "woman" of four years ago in what was a sexual homicide. Note that what she has not done is "something".
"I did not kill. I did not rape. I did not steal," she added. "I was not there."
Note that we deal with the unexpected. We expect an innocent person to say "I did not kill Meredith" but she drops the object of "kill" and adds "rape" and "steal" and "I was not there" as reference to location is obvious, but not stated. Prior analysis suggests that Amanda Knox did not deliver the fatal wound to Meredith though she was involved in the clean up afterwards, by her own words. She may have received a lesser sentence had she told the truth from the beginning.

The confusion is entirely due to Clouseau's strangled syntax in this message. When she writes this:

The "#amandaknox" at the end of the message is only there because Clouseau wants this tweet to be visible for anyone doing a search on the "#amandaknox" hashtag. Clouseau is absolutely definitely correcting her original tweet which was written like this:

Press conference with #meredithkercher at 4pm at san gallo hotel. #amandaknox

She was correcting the impression that Meredith Kercher was giving the presser, by adding the word "family". Note also the "#amandaknox" hashtag added at the end of this original tweet.

Meredith Kercher's family are due to give a press conference at 4pm Italy time at the San Gallo Hotel. Knox's family has got no press conference scheduled for this afternoon.

And I think that such a move would be entirely justifiable, when the alternative would place unnecessary stress, media attention and delay upon Knox and her family. I therefore think it's not out of the question that Knox and her family might be able to catch a late flight out of Rome or Florence tonight - even if they have to stop over somewhere in Europe overnight tonight (in which case, may I recommend the Ryanair flight from Rome Ciampino to London Stansted, departing tonight at 22.05).

I think it might be a good idea, if necessary, to decamp for some other European country before the Witchfinder's Army finds a way to re-arrest her. But fly Ryanair??? I think I'd rather stay in prison. :p

You're absolutely correct. I don't use twitter but I have an idea of how it works. One can do searches on any given "hashtag" - of which "#amandaknox" is one. So anyone looking for tweets about Knox can search using this hashtag, and every tweet with this hashtag included within it will show up in the search results. Similarly, one can set up an alert that issues a notification when any new tweet with a given hashtag is posted. The Bard is currently very fond of doing such a search (or alert) over on .org.

Clouseau therefore included this "#amandaknox" hashtag at the end of (or within) most of her tweets, so that they will show up in the search results of anyone doing a search (or getting alerts) based on the "#amandaknox" hashtag. That's why it appears at the end of that particular tweet.


ETA: "#MeredithKercher" is an existing hashtag, which is why Clouseau wrote Meredith's name in this way as opposed to writing simply "Meredith Kercher". But "#MeredithKercherFamily" is not a commonly-used hashtag. All Clouseau has done is add the word "family" separately after the hashtag "#MeredithKercher" to indicate that it is Meredith Kercher's family that she is referring to. And now I shall stop writing about this issue!

There are surprisingly few flights out of Rome to anywhere at any time after 9pm! And I'm sure that Michael O'Leary would ensure that Knox and her family got good treatment - he's never one to miss a good marketing opportunity!!
