UFOs: The Research, the Evidence

Heh. I've edited that post like 20 times!

Thank you! I appreciate the compliment.

Now I need to get to sleep. I've been up all night with insomnia.

As for the density stories, the clump you I posted has plenty of holes for light to get through, let alone when it's pitch black and backlit by a huge ball of light it never happened in the first place. Lastly, don't forget we're talking over 35 years ago and forests stories change. Trees Tales a few feet tall back then would be over 40 ft. unbelievably tall today.

Fixed it for you.

folio, now that I am wearing my space-boppers, please could you address my question I posed regarding the possibility that the two objects you saw on that fateful night, first at midnight and again at 2am, could be two completely different things.
He's not going to answer direct questions. He has gone into full-on passive-aggressive manipulator mode. Don't bother yourself. Ignore him or enjoy the humor in the thread. It's pointless to make such an effort, jumping through hoops and asking "please pretty please" answer my questions. You're dealing with someone rude enough to ignore your polite, direct questions, like mine about the logic/belief system, Drs_Res about the reflection on the lake, and yours here. I'm going to enjoy Sunday NFL football.

John Albert, very nice. I was trying the "lead a horse to water" method but I'd grow old before he got thirsty.

Yours is so understandable that log has no option but to ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist.

ogy, are you able to glean any knowledge at all concerning the null hypothesis yet from John Albert's excellent explanations and black/white crow illustration? I'm going to get a head start on you and advise you that the black/white crow example is NOT a strawman.

Thank you carlitos, I appreciate and take heed of your wise words. I'll also take this as a shameless opportunity to post a photograph I took yesterday. (But all in the name of critical thinking and furthering the understanding of the evidence for UFOs, you understand :D )

Yesterday, not only was it the hottest October day in England for over a hundred years, it was the VW Rally day on Brighton beach. Here's a photo I took to give you an idea of the scale of VW camper vans and the odd Beetle. Brighton pier, in the distance, is 1km away as the crow flies from where I am standing above the crazy golf (checked using gmap pedometer). One kilometer away, and I can promise you that there was no way I could see the VW vans and cars parked at the other end of Madeira Drive, one kilometer away down by the pier.

Given that they're both ribbon lakes formed during the last ice age and that they're very similar in appearance I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Canadian one was named after the one in Cumbria.

Given that the English one is named after the viking chieftain "Vinandr" and the norse word for lake "Mere" I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Canadian one was named after the one in Cumbria, unless Vinandr had a very good boat
:D
OMG Illegal Aliens

Understandable? Well, maybe for those who want to understand. Anyone want to bet $1 that ufology will call the null hypothesis an argument from ignorance again?

In The Love Bug, didn't Herbie eventually win by bouncing straight down the mountain, rather than taking the switchbacks?

Pines are very fast growing.
40 years ago the mountains would be full of different pines, since cut down and used for pine stuff.

Unless the mountains were almost devoid of pines until 1974.

Maybe, but showing pine in daylight is not a good comparison. You would have to take pine of the same density, then put a big projector behind, potentially corresponding to the luminence ufology pretend he saw, and shine it from behind. If no light is coming thru you have a point.

No, you got it exactly backwards because you misunderstand the pseudoscience of "ufology". If no light is coming through, the alien craft must have been brighter. You're supposed to make the excuses fit the desired outcome. You change the story. That's how ufology does it because aliens are real, truth and reality are disconnected, objectivity is for mean smart people like helpful cooperative skeptics, and that's just how pseudoscience works.
