Sometimes I wonder if this isnt sadistic in a way, making a show of the murder case...myself included has at times , i hate to admit, forgotten the reality.

A case built on fiction...... its really a evil situation in Perugia.

I think all of them get to speak, then Raffaele and Witchgirl get a "spontaneous" statement before the verdict. This reminds me of her 5:45AM spontaneous statement. It must have a different meaning in Italy.

Who knows? Seems to change every couple hours.

Yesterday they said only one lawyer per team could respond, yet both Mignini and Comodi ran their mouths.

No matter what, Amanda and Raff will get to speak.

A couple updates from Linda Byron in Perugia: Prosecutors say if Amanda Knox conviction is overturned, the media is at fault.


One project, for example, might be to disprove the prosecutions' analysis of media's role in all of this.
So, you collect up all the news stories on this case. You collect data such as how many names Amanda is called; how many suppositions about her sex life, her drug use; how many 'facts' which later turned out to be completely without supporting evidence, how many 'facts' which later were proved false. Then you track this analysis from the moment of arrest to the present.
My hypothesis is that the pattern that would emerge is a massive smear /misinformation campaign from the prosecution which is bought wholesale by the media across the world for at least the first year after arrest. You see the US media becoming more balanced during the first trial (but not the rest of the media). Then you finally see balanced reporting becoming more common in the world media after the C & V report.

This Motive of No-Reason! , or as Frank wrote, Motive of Nothing!

Is really a telling way to explain this entire case.

If the whole scientific community thinks that in front of a Low Copy Number sample you have to stop, there is a reason. And that reason must be respected. Even Giuseppe Novelli, consultant for the prosecution, published a study explaining the dangers of LCN DNA.

The police in Italy are really quite racist. If Rudy was there innocently (which is not a real possibility considering the evidence against him) then because of this inherent racism of the police, I could actually understand him being afraid of being set-up and treated unfairly.
But since we know he killed Meredith, his bringing race into it ('reporting' the black man found, black man guilty) has achieved precisely what it was designed to achieve. He has only been sentenced to 16 years for murder, sexual assault and theft. If Rudy had been ILE's sole focus (as he should have been) then his sentence would be a lot higher.

Rudy playing the race card has allowed Mignini to play exactly the same hand for his own nefarious ends, and as a result Rudy has escaped full consequences for his (disgusting) actions.
 
The red carpet is for the Perugia film festival.

I'm glad: I feared they might be crowning Mignini or something.

Reminds me of a two panel cartoon during or after the OJ trial. The left panel had OJ doodling on his note pad with a "thought balloon" above his head saying "When this is over I have to find the real killer!". The second panel showed a sleeve of three golf balls with the label "KILLER" on the side.

what is this prosecution day? they get a free-stage to go through all this again?

then they arent really rebutting the defense case, they're instead using this time to make some foul attempt to spew the hate-theory

Someone elsewhere has posted a clumsily-translated passage from the Guede Cassazione motivation in an effort to support this absurd (and numerous-times-refuted) canard that Italy's highest court has somehow issued a ruling on how many people killed Meredith. The person apparently doesn't realize that the phrase "the appeal judges" in that passage refers to the lower court (the same level that Amanda and Raffaele are now on). That is, the Cassazione judges are simply noting that the (lower) appeals court was "convinced" of the multi-person theory, and are not themselves taking a position (since they don't rule on facts in this manner -- why is this so hard for these people to understand??).

BTW - if things went that far it would be poetic justice if the extradition hearing were before Judge Healey (I know wrong jurisdiction and venue - just sayin'). I would love to see him rip Mignini and Co a new a******(s).

A lot of the report is just a history of the case, the first court found this, the appeal court found that. Unless it is on the missing page 20, I thought your translation of the relevant passage said it all:

Sounds like Pacelli used his time to have another summing up. Maresca is now saying that Knox has a private jet ready to take her home, whereas the Kerchers had trouble finding tickets. Excuse me Maresca, why is this a rebuttal? Where are you Hellmann, stop this garbage now, please! Also, Mr. Maresca, do you only care about Amanda? What about Raffaele? Does he have a private train waiting to take him back down to Puglia?

The real sum of the equation is that each lawyer in the prosecution will speak on behalf of themself to justify themselves. They will also try to cover the depravity of those around them in this disgusting farce and in quite a few cases just HOG THAT LIMELIGHT for that one last time.

The lawyers on the side of the defence will speak for noone in particular (but still rake in a lot of dough anyway, for being of virtually no use to anyone at all)
How do you take an open and shut case and open it when it's shut ?

Press trying to square Comodi's comment that there is no extradition agreement between Italy and USA. Is there an accord?

If she really did say this, it either shows:
a) A deliberate and malignant attempt to mislead the jurors

or

b) A stupidity and ignorance so deep, that I wouldn't entrust the cleaning of my loo to this woman (or any of her colleagues).
