A verdict in the Amanda Knox appeal is expected this Saturday even though closing arguments are still going on. Odds are, this means the judge has already made up his mind. The good news is, this means the case is pretty much drawing to a close and in less than two years the Amanda Knox threads might disappear.

Anyways, regardless of of whether Amanda Knox is guilty or innocent, I wanted to see whether JREF thinks she will be acquitted or not.

Also, it should be noted that the court ordered an independent review on two pieces of evidence: a knife alleged to be the murder weapon, and a bra clasp alleged to have the DNA of co-defendant Raffaele on it. The independent experts found that these pieces of evidence were unreliable. The translated report can be found here (not that I expect anyone to read it......):

Don't get your hopes up. There's a further level of appeal available, and both sides have intimated their intention to go there if necessary.

The "further level of appeal" only regards procedural, not evidentiary, issues. It's not a whole new trial, as this is.

Furthermore, neither side can file an appeal to that higher court until after a set period of time has passed -- more than enough for Knox and Sollecito, should they be acquitted here, to leave for a more-hospitable country.

That's not what I meant, really. I meant that so long as the case is open in any way, that thread is likely to continue active.

33 votes already, there seems to be a lot of interest. I was curious about the number of active posters on this thread and just looking at the newest one that has only been active a little over two months.

As I said in the other thread, these are those who are most likely to vote. Hardly a representative sample. A silly poll.

I find it interesting. It is representative of those who do vote and that is what I am interested in. I know you have said the question is too close to call so I am assuming you will not participate, at least until you decide one way or another.

The Amanda Knox threads are going to last for another two years? Gosh her fan base is persistent!

Oh man... I don't know much about the Amanda Knox case but her appeal is one thing I assure you she's not going to lose. She's too hot to be true.

I didn't quite understand the objection you expressed over there.

Yes, a significant majority in the current RS/AK thread believe at a minimum that there is not enough evidence to convict RS/AK of murder based on a beyond a reasonable doubt criteria.

But this poll is about what people believe the result of the second trial will be not what they believe with regards to the guilt or innocence of RS/AK. At least one of the people that believe RS/AK are guilty has said that they will be found not guilty. And it is possible that some of the people who think they are innocent think they will be convicted.

And of course people who are interested in the case are more likely to take this poll which in a sense makes it more useful because the people who took the poll are probably more informed on the case and are more likely to be right about the income.

No Internet poll is scientifically accurate. However those who don't vote probably just don't have a strong enough opinion, and/or haven't been following the case. If that is so then it makes the poll more accurate, not less.

Do not underestimate the lurkers. I have been following this case from when Skeptic Ginger started the 'cartwheel' thread, and have read practically every post since. So of course I voted, and I'm probably not the only one....

Yes she will win or lose her appeal, although frankly the case never had much appeal to me.

Ho ho, sounds like you aren't familiar with the downward spiral my friend.

I think the just result based on the evidence would be for her to be acquitted, but I wouldn't underestimate the incompetence of the Italian legal system.

It makes me want to be extra cautious when travelling to Italy. Of course, innocent people being convicted and even executed has happened and still happens in the US, too.
