It is interesting to me that, Pattydash's world, he's gone from seeing some sort of evil cabal to a benign military that is protecting us, but keeping it secret for our own good.

I only have a BA in psychology, so I'll let someone make a guess as to what kind of behavior or syndrome this might be.

That would be the Dunning-Kruger Syndrome.

That's what is so amusing about Pat, occasionally he posts something that might actually form the basis of an argument, then rather than consolidating he runs off, head down, feet pumping, straight into a big fat wall of wrong.

ROFL! That is a great simile!

That is true. I find the idea of a chairbound teenager calling those brave men liars very insulting.

Since I've had the honor of meeting many heroes like the astronauts, aviators, pilots, and crew at various aviation events, I have to agree!

Dr Socks doesn't remember Reagan's "Star Wars"

Weapons in space was/is a no no. Congress did not approve and would not approve, as they would not openly approve today.
Guess you're too young to remember the Strategic Defense Initiative then. I'm thinking you were born after 1990. Am I right?

Do you remember Buzz Aldrin punching that dingbat Moon hoax believer?

An idle train of thought: It wandered along following Patrick's fixation with using Apollo to provide pinpoint accuracy for ICBMs (in a manner never really explained and certainly never quantified), and strayed toward the question of why that was so important to him. I surmised that a reason one would believe ICBMs would need to be supremely accurate would be if they had conventional warheads instead of nukes. But of course they did have nuclear warheads, so long as you aren't potty enough to believe that nuclear weapons themselves are also a conspiracy...

Anders?

Anders, is that you?

Awwwwwwh comm'on now SusPilot, don't you think they were fibbing?? Do you honestly think they flew that great big fat Saturn V into the air just to park a teensy weensy little ol' mirror on the moon? Don't ya' think they parked something a little bigger and fatter than that?

Bet they got more up there than you ever dreamed of. Those were pretty big rockets they used. Could launch a pretty big satellite, something as big as a LM even.

No, I don't think they used the Saturn V to just put a "teensy weeny little ol' mirror" on the moon, you blithering idiot! I think it was used for some man-rating tests, then it was used for 9 manned lunar missions, one Earth orbit mission, and to launch Skylab. Then, sadly, it was retired.

The reason I'm reacting so strongly is I only just now realized that your post that I quoted seems to imply that I suddenly believed that the only reason we went to the moon was to plant the LRRR's.

Come on Pat, taunt us with how this one post will cause the downfall of the grand conspiracy. Tell us what fools we are, that we're so far below you that we don't even understand it.

No one would have ever thunk us, we Americans, so ruthless, so good!

"The turning point in my career came with the realization that Black should play to win instead of just steering for equality."

Even though the Ruskies got there first, imagine what we managed to park there with those big ol' rockets. Must have been, must be, pretty dang cool.

You cut me to the quick sir Drewid

"A player some time ago asked me to give him some advice for average players, and I asked him of what sort, and what did he find was the general weakness. He said that some players are very aggressive and others are not aggressive at all. Both are wrong, but if you have to be one of the two, it is much better to be very aggressive."

My Dear Dear Dear RAF

It's all he has left in his arsenal of "debate weapons". :)

"I would love to spend all my time writing to you; I'd love to share with you all that goes through my mind, all that weighs on my heart, all that gives air to my soul; phantoms of art, dreams that would be so beautiful if they could come true."

People think that just because artificial satellites became available in the 60s, the military would give up on using the moon. No way, its got way way way way too many advantages as a military platform.

This was the post that tipped me over into subscribing, what advantages as a military platform? It's simply too distant to make a decent observation or weapons platform. Perhaps Patrick/Doc/Highgain would care to enlighten us as to how big a telescope you would need on the moon to match the resolution of the Keyhole satellites?

Yes in the 50s the US military had plans for a military moonbase but those weren't much more than pipe-dreams that crumbled in the face of the technical realities of getting to the moon. By the 60s they had given up on the moon were focused on earth orbit with the MOL, Blue Gemini, etc. Plans which also came to nothing as satellites filled the projected roles and Apollo became the overriding priority.

Of course the overriding objection is that if it were so valuable why did the US scrap Apollo and the Saturn V in favour of the STS that bound them to low Earth orbit? Why was it decades before NASA sent so much as a probe to the moon again?
