Merged Apollo "hoax" discussion / Lick observatory laser saga

Matt, it is not working, I know this stuff inside and out. Let's keep it simple. For your sake, we'll exclude the telemetry concern. Let's just say photons are bounced. The first time this was done, and done well as far as we know, was in the case of the ruby red photons bouncing off the "Apollo 11 LRRR". These experiments could be used in determining a value for both k and AU to a much greater accuracy than had ever previously been achieved.

Translation: It was a mistake mentioning the telemetry and I hope no-on picks me up on it.

Let's launch a Saturn V, a rocket that evolved from ICBMs, to the Moon and land a craft within a few miles of the intended landing zone (if not for a boulder field, I wonder how close they would have landed to their designated LZ?) or just into lunar orbit. Manned or unmanned, if we can send a ship to the Moon with that degree of accuracy, why the hell would we need laser reflectors to be able to target an ICBM that is going to travel, what, 10,000 miles in a ballistic path?
Can I stundie a whole thread?

Definitly time for a straw poll: Everyone shout out if you think Patrick really does "know this stuff inside and out".

Not even kinda-sorta. It's been 3 years since my astronautics coursework and and I'm still managing to whack-a-mole the incoherent mess that's coming from his keyboard.

I do not have "Google" where I am at. I have my portable disks, about 500 MB worth, and a borrowed computer. So when I quote, it does come from my disc memory. But most of the relevant derrivations, I can easily do on my own. Well, that is not exactly true because I have done them so many times before. So it is more memory now than derriving, but you get the point. My wife did manage to get a message to me with the Borman word for word stuff from Life Magazine.

I do quite well without Google, thank you very much. Some one is bringing an old LRRR article to me today, hand delivered. I will share its contents soon. You will enjoy it I am quite sure.

You don't know who?

Hand deliveries are the best kind.

I like this link. Comparing the new images with older images was a good idea...you can really see the difference.

In particular, I am amazed by the A17 rover images. You can actually see the wheel base of the rover.

So Patrick, what excuses will you pull out of your "hiney" to "explain" these images???

Is this thread really still going on?

Oh, good heavens, no. He can't even keep his story straight, as I pointed out several times before concluding he is simply trolling. He's also a rather incompetent serial liar, both according to his own stated criterion (inconsistency) and by his long history of intentional TOS violations to spam his legions of sock-puppets across other boards. He's no doctor, writer, mathematician, or 53-year-old. He won't answer questions in any meaningful way - he certainly ignored mine.

Even setting all that aside for the moment, though, he clearly hasn't the faintest idea of how spaceflight works; not celestial dynamics, not mission operations, not ranging and tracking, not spacecraft design, and not how actual engineering projects are managed or how actual engineers work. He is evidently equally clue-free in terms of history, astronomy, and planetary science in general.

The one thing he does have going for him is the energy to Google up sources (then lie about doing so) that the usual HBs don't bother to find. But all that is wasted because (a) he doesn't understand what he finds and (b) all he's looking for is bits he can paste into his latest context-free fantasy. He doesn't understand proper sourcing at all; the whole thing is a sort of hyperactive cargo-cult "research". Too bad; if he ever put his ego aside and stopped running his keyboard, he might actually learn something. But at this point, I think he's simply a troll, so he never will.

Not that any of this makes one bit of difference in the real world. I doubt, for all his juvenile posturing, that even fattydash/Patrick1000/DoctorTea/BFischer/BSpassky/mvinson/piersquared/HighGain/etc.,etc. can really believe that anyone will actually remember his rants, let alone that they would really convince anyone of nominal intelligence who actually knows something about Apollo. He's just an unusually self-absorbed kid posturing for attention. I saw no more point in giving him any.

Maybe he is hoping to get a book deal, like the guy who did "stuff" my dad says: The hilarious comments of an Internet troll.

500mb may seem like a lot to someone with a phone.

My Motorola Droid 3 has 12GB of internal storage. I added the 16GB microSD card from my Droid (1) for a total of about 28GB of storage... on a smartphone. A practicing, single, childless physician with Patrick1000's allegedly overpowering intellect should have no problem affording what I can afford.

But I have to agree that his trolling is way too obvious now. Maybe he just felt bad that we weren't catching on...

I'm not so sure it is a troll. It may well believe the steady stram of bovine fecal matter. However, it seems to have at least learned that a steady stream of sock puppets leads to failure.
