No I think you are mistaken, they only had private pilot licenses for light aircraft. They had simulator training on the big jets but AFIAK no actual flying time or license to fly airliners

I could be wrong on that, but I know that Hani Hanjour had a commercial pilots license issued in 1999 from the FAA.
