Why are you making things up.? How do you know that? Have you conducted a large scale poll or did your god pal tell you?
How I know this about my hypothetical consensus, is that I for one would not agree to one not like what I just said. I don't want anyone telling me to worship anything or anyone and I doubt too many other people do either.

As for Jesus, he claimed to know God and that is in the Gospel of John. There is no description of God told by Jesus in the Gospels. In the Apostolic letters, in the NT, it is said that God is a spirit. Revelation has descriptions of someone who may or may not be God, not called God specifically but were visions which were just allegorical images and not always literal.

Carry on,I'm out.

I meant if this hypothetical consensus came about, another thing to consider is this point.

ETA: this operation consensus would not be to get people to do anything but to stop some antisocial behaviors, such as getting into conflicts.

God couldn't do it so I doubt if anyone else can.

Why not simply shed all of your superstitions and try to learn something about the real world?

You have no idea what you are missing by keeping your head in this cesspool of woo.

Because of all the people who do and that some of these people believe they are doing a service to God, by doing things that would otherwise not be considered acceptable.
Maybe what I am getting at is people being vocal in their opposition, including the woo devotees, to the improper use of woo. Not just sitting there being quiet.

Is it possible for people to agree there is one God?

Yes, but not all people.

Can people give up partisanship enough to agree that God is
far away somewhere, in a place we can not go, and that God
does no come here and that we can not know His name?

Yes, but not all people.

Would the world be a better place if we could?

Yes, everything would be better of if everyone believed in the exact same things! Just like everything would be better if everyone enjoys the same movies, the same foods, the same books, the same colors and the same god damn sexual positions! Everything would be so nice! Little fluffy bunnies bouncing around, rainbows shining and everything would just be perfect!

No thanks. I'd rather live in a universe where people are willing to blow themselves up to kill others because of trivial religious disputes (that is: the universe we're living in right) than some hypothetical (and impossible) universe where people "just get along because they believe in the same things". At least the latter is more interesting.

Ah, the old "ten million flies can't be wrong" argument.

There are no gods.

If doing something isn't acceptable, doing it in the deluded belief that a 'god' told you to doesn't make it acceptable.

You are a woo devotee.

There are no 'proper uses of woo'.

You would be much better off (and so would we all) if you were sitting there being quiet and reading a good book on science.

Do you believe in the Rapture? Do you think all the fundamentalists are one day soon going to be whisked away? That would be nice to get rid of them but the horrible truth is it is not going to happen. They are going to still be here and will adjust their predictions to make it that they did not sufficiently convert the heathen and this time they will force them.

So the point of this thread is to tell us the bleeding obvious? Are you related to Sybil Fawlty?

There is no we and there are no plans. Cheerio. Go for a walk in the fresh air to clear your head.
By We I mean everyone else in the world who are not fanatics. The non-fanatics outnumber the fanatics, but the non-fanatics, being not fanatical may loose out to those who are. The religiously non-fanatical should become fanatical towards freedom of choice concerning things religious before being enveloped by a religious fascism, just my opinion.

No, to see if there is anything we can do to hamper these people's plans.

You may not have noticed this, but you are communicating to people via the internet on a website called "James Randi Education Foundation Forum". The stated aim of JREF is to promote critical thinking and skepticism. If enough people learn how to be skeptical, critical thinkers the God-botherers' plans don't stand a chance.

So if you really want to save the world from the evils that people do in the name of religion, give up religion. Maybe you could try to encourage the god-botherers to start thinking critically so that they too can free themselves...

You are just as superstitious and willfully ignorant as the fundamentalists, and just as wrong.

You are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

You are fanatical about this.

People do hurt other people over gods all the time.
Backing off on a claim for ownership of the world by one particular god would seem to be an improvement.
It would have to be an agreement that is voluntarily arrived at, otherwise it defeats the purpose.

But gods would be nothing without religion. The concept of a god is there to control people, if one were to admit they didn't know of this god, then there would be no way to control folks, and no benefit to the religion.

I think you are right.
As religious as I may seem, I admit I do not know God, how could I?
I rationalize a god to explain things I would not be able to explain otherwise.
What I proposed was normal, meaning do not receive financial benefit from religion, people tell each other the truth. We can believe in a God but don't know the first thing about this God.

I am. I spend a lot of time every day fighting fundamentalists, on religion forums.

ETA: I do it by showing they are wrong, from the Bible.

It seems disorganised other than a sort of an idea which emerges organically, not under a direction of an individual.
You could have a God existing outside the universe, having made a universe containing the Myriad, who do take active roles in shaping the interior of the Universe which had all the materials necessary for creating multiple worlds inside it.

You might think that, they don't. Again, you are forcing your idea of what "god" means on other people, and that is part of what causes the conflict you are trying to avoid in your OP.

A better idea, believe whatever you like, and don't worry about what other people believe, as long as they have the decency to keep it to themselves. That would seem to be more likely to avoid violence than forcing a single idea on everyone.
