Anyway apart from noting that if numbers of statues are the measure of these things, then Ronald McDonald is far more important than Ronald Reagan, I'll point out that the author of the linked article might need a history refresher, or an editor. Something.

Do you think there was a national vote, and the British people clamored for a statue of Reagan?

Some suit sitting in an office somewhere gave it a green light, and it in no way reflects popularity or lack of popularity the Ex-President may or may not inspire amongst the citizenry.

I'm from Britain though, and I'd say his appeal is definitely niche.

PS - Also it's going up outside the U.S. Embassy.

It was especially important to General Electric, which put up $15 million to promote his image this year by every means available.

And it must be the right image, mind you. If the recollections of his own son happen not to serve the party cause, those must be tossed down the memory hole.
