More lies from the RNC.

There is already a precedent set for this that has been in place for decades. A court of law is not likely to reverse that for no reason other than partisan point-making.

Preibus is either lying or a complete idiot.

Was the precedent for using only the residential portion? And is there any precedent for the map room on the first floor being part of the residence?I don't know maybe there is.
Generally the residence is the 2nd floor.
I am not saying I think he broke any laws only that it does not mean more lies from the RNC.

You've got to love that when the only other option someone accused of lying can offer is that instead of being a liar, they're just stupid.

Did you see the bolded part of the OP quote?

How is it a lie, He believes the map room is a place of state business not part of the personal residence.
Funny, I just heard a bit on NPR (in the context of the Murdoch scandal) about the legal concept of willful blindness.

Don't you think it is the burden of a person in Priebus' position to ascertain the facts before wrongly accusing the president of a crime and demanding an investigation? Spouting off like that in ignorance of the fact that the map room has a history of being considered a part of the residential portion of the White House (by both parties) is every bit the moral equivalent of lying.

Do I think he should have wasted his time requesting an investigation , I don't really know enough but I doubt it.
Do you think he should have run this by his own lawyer or. . I dunno an experienced White House page..before calling for an investigation?

Would it help if we called it the billiards room? It's were Calvin Coolidge played pool. FDR used it for a map room. Obama met the Dalai Lama there (whereas he meets most state visitors in the Oval Office).

At any rate, I think you've got the burden of proof on the wrong side. Eric Schultz said it's part of the residence.

And really, it's not as if Congress doesn't have other matters on its plate. You'd think the RNC would rather Congress focus on straightening out this debt crisis, and would at least be willing to do a bit of homework before calling for an investigation.

ETA: And the Wallstreet Journal confirmed this with "a number of ethics lawyers in Washington". Linky. Gee, I wish I'd have thought of that!

What burden of proof I am only saying to call it another lie is not correct.
In general the second floor is the residence , the map room is on the first floor, official swearing in took place there, do you think President Obama's meeting with the Dali Lama was a personal meeting? (really) , etc

You think the fact that President Obama's whitehouse spokesman said it is part of the residence proves anything.

I think it is a waste of time for the head of the republican party to ask for this investigation, I do not consider it to be a lie.

Is it true that at first the White house denied it was filmed in the map room? If so why did they say it?

Yes. The burden of proof is on the person making the accusation. If you're defending him, it's on you.

That was exactly the point of receiving him in a residential portion. It is meant to placate the objections of the Chinese to treat it not as a state visit.

And that it was verified by several lawyers? Yes. It proves that Priebus was willfully ignorant of facts he should have checked out before making wild accusations and calls for an investigation. I find this just as morally repugnant as a lie. And I think if we're quibbling over it being a lie just based on the point that Priebus was ignorant of facts he ought to have known (and could have learned in the effort it took to call a lawyer), I see no defense of his actions against accusations that he lied.

I have never heard that. I've read several news articles on this story, and I haven't run into any such denial. Where did you hear that?
