'The Undefeated' bombs at the box office

Surely you aren't suggesting that those clips were cherry-picked in an attempt to make the film look better than it is to encourage people to pay money to go see it? What sort of company does that?

I believe that is what he is suggesting. And stop calling him Shirley!

Every company in the movie business.
I suspect those who like Sarah Palin will like the movie those who do not like her will hate the movie.

How much publicity did the movie get? I listen to talk radio usually to and from work it is all conservative radio host and I never heard of it until now.

Yeh, I think that was kind of Upchurch's point. Sarcasm, y'know.

Ham-fisted propaganda is usually received poorly by those not in its target audience.

Quite a bit, actually; I've seen it mentioned on CNN (both TV and web site) a number of times.

According to the voting on IMDB the movie currently has 401 rating votes.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1961604/ratings

113 give it a 10 of 10, highest possible.
273 give it a 1 of 10, lowest possible.

There are a grand total of 15 other ratings.

Obviously more a reflection of Palin than the movie itself.

For sure, since that's more people than have actually seen the movie -- in total.

Is it going to expand beyond the 8 cities where it has opened already?

From IMDB

The Undefeated, the documentary film that highlights the amazing political journey of Sarah Palin, is expanding its release after a solid opening weekend at the box office. Though the movie brought in just $65,132 in 10 theaters, only four other films averaged more than its per-screen average of $6,513 last weekend. Today, Arc Entertainment announced plans to bring the movie to 14 theaters this weekend. “Given the audience response on our opening weekend we now know we have a film that works,” said director Stephen K. Bannon in a statement. “Our objective is very simple — to bring this film to every market and every »

How many of those 273 "1"s do you actually think went to the movie?

Good question. I did a Google of "The Undefeated" Palin, with a custom date range of June 1, 2011 to July 15, 2011, and got more than 700,000 hits.

Glancing quickly at some of the links, I see there was media coverage at Huffington Post, National Review, The Weekly Standard, Time, Fox News, CBS, ABC, Hollywood Reporter, Slate, NPR, the Washington Post, and many other recognizable name sources. (So it's not just 700,000 anonymous random bloggers who were talking about it prior to the official opening; it was covered by virtually every major news outlet.)

Several right-wing outlets, such as Human Events, HotAir and TammyBruce, were included. I was curious how often prominent right-wing radio and tv shows mentioned the movie, since you say you listen to talk radio and hadn't heard of the movie. A search of rushlimbaugh.com turned up several hits -- but when I tried to look at one to see what Rush had said I got a message saying the content is for subscribers only. Even so, it appears that the movie was talked about by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and many other right-wing commentators and talk show hosts.

Palin's supporters were also doing their part to get the word out to the world about the movie:

US News and World Report said:
Palin's Team Urges Big Crowds at The Undefeated

Big crowds are being urged to flood the openings of The Undefeated, the movie about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's political rise...

In a blast email, "Team Sarah" asked supporters to start buying tickets to premiers in cities like Indianapolis, Orlando and Phoenix. "You can be the spark that becomes a grassroots revolution helping to ignite, solidify, inform, and unify Americans around the values that Sarah Palin represents, and, frankly, it isn't that terribly hard!" said the email. "Team Sarah wants to see 'The Undefeated' become a BIG success and we are treating this like OPENING DAY in a long battle to promote the VALUES we see that Sarah Palin represents! But, we need to ACT! Please don't waste time."

None of them. But all of the "10" voters did because conservatives are inherently honest, and Sarah Palin is just that awesome.

I would think most of the "10" were being sort of honest but they are biased enough that Sarah Palin go to the Taco Bell drive would get a 10

I suspect those who like Sarah Palin will like the movie those who do not like her will hate the movie.

Do you suppose both positions are equally valid?

And I'm not just talking about "liking" the movie as a matter of taste. I'm talking about their evaluation of the movie.

ETA: Oh---I get to Godwin the thread: Some people really liked Hitler and some people really hated him. People who like him probably think history was unfair to him. Those who hated him probably think history was pretty accurate.

I think the narrative would be about the same were we discussing the release of the next book by the Coulter critter.
