North Dakota in a state

This is a non-story. ND isn't the first state to retroactively fix a formality issue, and I expect it won't be the last. But it's a state, it's been a state as long as everyone thinks it has, and that's the end of it.

@OP: Not really-- saying "I heard from a lawyer" is heresay, but for what it's worth, a lawyer on another forum commented that it doesn't change ND's status as a state, it just overrides their constitution to indeed require the described oaths of office.

Heh, this is news to me--and I live in ND. Doesn't surprise me a North Dakotan would find the error and move to correct it.

Oh and of course the article has to reference the movie Fargo. That gets really old.

If it wasn't for the Coen Brothers, no one would even know where Fargo is. I've driven across that hell hole you call North Dakota, it's 'aboot' one national park/monument short of being "Best Dakota".

Marge Gunderson: You betcha!

Hell hole? The best thing about ND is that it isn't any number of other places. It's quiet and stable here, just the way we like it.

Also, the move Fargo had very little to do with ND. Most of it was based in our neighbor to the east. However, a lot of us do have woodchippers in the backyard.

All I know about North Dakota is that Weird Al Yankovic holds the opinion that you could unwind the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota all the way to Fargo. Its status as a state would not seem to have any great influence on the issue, either way.

Well, that and the Electric Company.

"Fargo North, Decoder!"

Yay, someone else that remembers!!!

I think we managed to introduce all three references to North Dakota in popular culture.

The best thing about ND is probably the state owned banking system. Communists, every last red state voting one of yawl.

Yeah, except the most important part, the title. Have you seen that movie called "Brainerd"? I didn't think so.

The 3.2% unemployment rate probably doesn’t hurt much either...
