Also, it would be against the 14th Amendment to the Constitution for the United States to repudiate its debts.
I was worried about this a great deal until Beerina's idea of spending money only on things mentioned in the Constitution.Well, the government is not bankrupt. It's not even close to going bankrupt.
Declaring bankruptcy when you are not in fact bankrupt would be a problem.

In the graph on wikipedia titled, Receipts And Expenditures Estimates, everything listed as Mandatory Spending will get funded,
everything listed Discretionary Spending will get reduced funding somewhere down to, oh, to ten percent of their normal budget.

Ladewig,
I assume a "world government" would technically be a corporatist oligarchy, with the normal functions of "government" basically being the muscle to advance the aims of the oligarchy.
The military, intelligence agencies would be turned inward on everybody, internet and media censorship would be implemented and we'd end up with a system that would make Josef Stalin and Kim Jong Il envious.

Can you PLEASE stop spamming serious discussion threads with your paranoid conspiracist nonsense?
Conpiracy theories circulate because some people are paranoid and ignore any evidence that counters their pet conspiracy theory.NoScotsman,
Well, I don't understand why they don't just carry out the audit. If there's gold there, what is there to lose? Conspiracy theories circulate when people feel the government isn't being truthful with them

How about if the people who want the audit done pay for the audit themselves.
It would cost about $15 million I hear. This is if you want to actually scientifically test each bar of gold to make sure that it's real and pure.

So plunging the world into an economic disaster that would make the Great Depression seem like boom times is his answer to the problem?
Couldn't we do some quick random Archimedes tests on the cheap? If the gold all appears to be there and isn't obviously fake that'd be enough for me.
