Michelle Bachmann could be our next president.

The latest thing to come out about Bachmann is that she was a tax attorney for the IRS for 20 years. Can anybody say big government stealth candidate?

I find it amazing that this does not hurt her. She spent 20 years as a

LAWYER FOR THE IRS!

(on the other hand, maybe she was spectacularly incompetent)

More Bachmann nonsense

"I have fought the cap-and-trade agenda, rather than implement it, and I will work to end cap-and-trade as President of the United States," Bachmann wrote in the email, referring to the policy initiative developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The problem? This doesn't exactly count as a resume builder, considering the fact that a federal cap and trade program is currently nonexistent.

And If I am elected, I will end the government's "chicken in every pot" program!

Bachmann's history as an IRS lawyer has been common knowledge for a while, and just another link in the chain of the "I've got mine, screw everybody else" brand of fiscal conservatism she and the Tea Party espouses.

She gladly accepted money from government subsidies, Medicaid, and from being an agent of "big government", but now wants to make sure no one else can do the same. And in spite of these glaring hypocrisies, the Tea Party fall all over themselves for her.

No wonder no one takes these clowns seriously.

Her husband's a real piece of work; not only does he sell anti-gay "conversion" pseudoscience under the guise of "therapy," it turns out he holds no license to practice therapy and his "PhD" is shady to say the very least.

I wouldn't mind seeing his dissertation. I wonder if it's any better than Kent Hovind's.

I've always assumed its spun as "therefore she has personal inside experience of how corrupt they are"

From your link, “Minnesota is one of the only states in which you can practice mental health without a license,” Stark said.

That strikes me as an ambiguous statement.

Bachmann Moves Into the Lead in Iowa

Michele Bachmann has been inching closer to longtime front-runner Mitt Romney in several national polls since her well-received debate performance last month, and now a new survey released Monday shows the Minnesota congresswoman taking the lead in Iowa a month before the first major strength test in the White House race, the Aug. 13 Ames Straw Poll.

Bachmann edges Romney, 25 percent to 21 percent, among likely Iowa caucus-goers, according to a poll commissioned by TheIowaRepublican.com. She holds a greater lead over Romney among the "most attentive" voters surveyed, 32 percent to 18 percent.

That's truly frightening. She's gonna win Iowa because she was born by John Wayne Gacy.

Damn, the woman is totally inacapable of not doubling down on stupidity.

After the Slavery flap on the pledge she signed:

Her spokeswoman first stated that Bachmann was only signing the "vows" portion of the pledge, not the preamble, which is the part that included the controversial line claiming that black families might have been better off during slavery. But then she threw in a line comparing actual slavery with "economic slavery" (via Politico):

"She signed the 'candidate vow,' " campaign spokeswoman Alice Stewart said, and distanced Bachmann from the preamble language, saying, "In no uncertain terms, Congresswoman Bachmann believes that slavery was horrible and economic enslavement is also horrible."

She is turning into the best entertainment value in the internet.

Michele Bachmann, candidate for President of the United States, admitting she doesn't read documents before signing them.

I wouldn't mind seeing his dissertation. I wonder if it's any better than Kent Hovind's.
Hovind has a PhD?

[sidetrack, I'll come back to Bachmann's degree but I had to check on this one] from Wiki on the "Patriot Bible University" Hovind went to:
Accreditation
[There's a picture of the place in the link that is worth checking: Profile view of Patriot Bible University taken on November 22, 2006. It's a small single building]
In Steve Levicoff's Name It and Frame It? New Opportunities in Adult Education and How to Avoid Being Ripped Off by 'Christian' Degree Mills he explained that while a non-accredited school is not necessarily a degree mill, he wrote that Patriot Bible University was a degree mill.[5] The college has varied its policies over the years, but it has been criticized for awarding students degrees based on questionable standards such as "life experience" or "ministry evaluation" that lack academic rigour and merit.
The university is not accredited by any recognized accreditation associations of higher learning. As of 2007, it was recognized by the American Accrediting Association of Theological Institutions (AAATI), which has no recognition from the United States Department of Education or any other government educational organization.[16] The AAATI is itself considered an accreditation mill, and provides approval to schools for a $100 charge.[5] In 2008, it was accredited by Accrediting Commission International.[17] The ACI is again not recognized by the US Department of Education.[18] The St. Petersburg Times reported, "Alan Contreras, who heads Oregon's Office of Degree Authorization, which closely tracks schools with questionable accreditation. 'Anything accredited by ACI in Beebe, Ark., is either fake or substandard, as far as I know.'"[19]

And for anyone who is curious, a link to Hovind's doctoral thesis. There were a number of dead links but I finally found one that still worked. [/sidetrack]

OK, on to Bachmann's education. I can't easily find information on the O W Coburn Law School. If one looks at Wiki, they have an article on Oral Roberts U but no entry for Coburn.

I found this in the Minnesota Independent for what it's worth:
Bachmann got her undergraduate degree from Winona State University in 1978. She graduated from O.W. Coburn School of Law at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla., in 1986.

The ABA yanked Coburn’s accreditation in 1981 over its Christian litmus tests for students and faculty but later reinstated it. However, the law school closed in 1986 and donated its library to Pat Robertson’s Regent University in Virginia. Regent then started its own law school but didn’t receive ABA accreditation until 1996.
A lot of people are citing the Minnesota Independent, I do hope it is a reliable source.

Bachmann graduated from the law school the year its accreditation was reinstated so a lot of the time she was there they were unaccredited. Just some trivia, FYI.

Robertson's Regent School of Law for those that don't know, was the unaccredited at the time law school that George W Bush found 150 or so new grads to replace highly skilled career lawyers at the Dept of Justice ... but I digress.

Someone on Facebook found a link to the graduation photo from Wm and Mary's when Bachmann supposedly graduated and she's not in the image. But that trivia is just interesting, not really significant. Wm & M does have a page bragging about the alum, Bachmann.
Bachmann received her undergraduate degree from Winona State University in Minnesota. She received her J.D. at the O.W. Coburn School of Law at Oral Roberts University. Bachmann received her LLM from William & Mary Law School in 1988. The university offered the master’s program in tax law from 1954 to 1995.

Well there's not much to see here. She got a lackluster degree from a lackluster college.

His entire "PHD" is approximately as long as my literature review for my PHD, i.e. my Chapter 1!

Fake or flakey PHD certification is one thing that really pisses me off

Back to the topic at hand though, I have a suspicion (which I'm saying as a non-American so take it with a grain of salt), that while Michelle Bachmann will not the be next President of the USA, she will be the Republican Candidate for that position.
