I haven't been able to find a place to *set* an avatar. I thought an option would reveal itself after I hit fifteen posts, but that hasn't happened as far as I know.

You need 50 posts to get an avatar. Then you will see the option on the User CP.

The thing is, I usually use a self picture for an avatar. Maybe I should just bring a Sharpie so I can draw an arrow pointing from the badge to my face.

Go into the community section of the forum and post like the wind in the fun threads, you will make 50 in no time at all.
