Michelle Bachmann could be our next president.

Michelle Bachman is sleeping now. It is 11:35pm Minnesota time. I would send you a webcam picture of her sleeping but I don't know how to hack into webcams.

Well, I doubt she has a webcam setup in her attic, but I would be curious to see how she manages to sleep while hanging upside-down.

I dont think she so much sleeps as goes into power conservation mode. The vacuous smile stays on, the backlighting just gets dimmed. The eyes stay just a little too wide open (I was going to say they lose focus and the intelligence disappears out of them but that would be stretching it). Then her speech slows and she slumps forwards like the kid on Small Wonder used to do when her batteries were dead.
Then in the morning she boots up.

FWIW, Bachmann signed a pledge to support homosexual bigotry. It also supports banning "all forms" of pornography.

It also includes the token:

– REJECT SHARIA ISLAM: Vow 11 requires the candidate to reject Sharia law.

Whatever that means.

More token extreamism from the the extreme's token extremist.

Here is the pledge

one of the first points is a very thinly veiled bit of racism.

Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA‟s first African-American President.

Another "point" from the pledge:

Support for the enactment of safeguards for all married and unmarried U.S. Military and National Guard personnel, especially our combat troops, from inappropriate same-gender or opposite-gender sexual harassment, adultery or intrusively intimate commingling among attracteds (restrooms, showers, barracks, tents, etc.);

What? no communal showers in the millitary?

plus prompt termination of military policymakers who would expose American wives and daughters to rape or sexual harassment, torture, enslavement or sexual leveraging by the enemy in forward combat roles.

on the other hand, the "enemy" can rape the men all they want.

the irony meter explodes on this nect one:

Rejection of Sharia Islam and all other anti-woman, anti-human rights forms of totalitarian control.

followed by
Fierce defense of the First Amendment‟s rights of Religious Liberty and Freedom of Speech, especially against the intolerance of any who would undermine law-abiding American citizens and institutions of faith and conscience for their adherence to, and defense of, faithful heterosexual monogamy.

I'm going to repeat this post because I'm still waiting for someone else to pick up on what this is saying:

Correct me, if you think I am wrong, but it appears to me that that is saying that blacks were better off under slavery.

Well it may be true that more black children were raised in two-parent households under slavery but I'd like to see her facts in that regard. From what I've read, it wasn't unusual for families to be split up with one parent being sold or the children being sold.

Even if it was true, it's like saying that the black death was a good thing because it meant that fewer people had a pension deficit as a result.

Yes, but I gave it a pass because she seemed to be using the comparison not to imply that things were good for blacks under slavery, but to highlight how bad she thinks things are for blacks now (because of the breakdown of the family caused by teh gays).

I disagree with her, but I do not see the comparison as racist. It is still homophobic since she is essentially saying that the problems that blacks face today are problems caused by acceptance of homosexuals and other alternate lifestyles.

If you worked for the News Of The World, you'd know how.

Actually, it was a major factor in the decline of the feudal system and the rise of the ideas that commoners should have some rights, too - can´t treat your people too badly if there aren´t all that many left to till the fields...

Haven't you learned yet to be skeptical of Think Progress? In fact the part of the pledge having to do with pornography does not call for banning:

"Humane protection of women and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy--our next generation of American children--from human trafficking, sexual slavery, seduction into promiscuity, and all forms of pornography and prostitution, infanticide, abortion and other types of coercion or stolen innocence."

It's poorly worded (and a bit patronizing towards women), but only the idiots at TP would interpret that as calling for a ban on porn.

Ah. What would you interpret "protection...from...all forms of pornography" to mean?

Whoa. Hold on. Wait. Wait just a second. You mean to tell me that politicians have SPEECHWRITERS? Time to start the revolution, folks.
