Gage: Hell No I Ain't Reading Mackey's White Paper

No, no, Mr. Skinny. Those weren't aliens. They were just from Piqua. ;):D
I'll believe you if you can tell me how (older) people from around Piqua pronounce the name of that town. Otherwise, I'll know that you know nothing about Piqua.

And yes, I've been to Piqua before, so there!

I downloaded the YouTube, extracted the bit about Mackey, and amped up the volume 10 times. Still not great, but definitely more audible.

Cheers, Dave

Hell if I know! Long time ago, when I was just a little kid across the state line in Indiana, I'd hear the town name on weather reports out of channel 7, WHIO. In those broadcasts, it was pronounced "pih" (short "i", like in "pick")"-kwa". I've never actually been there.

Which makes it perfect for an accusation of being an alien settlement: I've never been there and don't know a thing about it! :D

1.) Lived across the state line from Dayton.

2.) Knows of WHIO/ Ch 7

3.) Close, but not quite there on the pronunciation. It's more like Pick-Way for the older Mercer County folks.

Anyhow, I'm convinced you know the area.

Not that it makes any difference to anything here. In fact we are off topic and deserve to be sent to AAH.

maybe you should add pop ups and a coloring section too, Ryan.

We tried that once. Didn't sell a single one. Turns out the Truthers see everything in black and white, so it only confused them.

However, we had one interesting idea come out of a focus group. Seems the Truthers do like to play "connect the dots." We're looking into doing that instead. It'd be pretty cheap to throw together. ;)

2) Ryan, I appreciate your white paper. A nice bridge between technical information and a perhaps non-technical audience. I read it out loud to the orphans every Christmas. :) Actually, I'll be passing it under my students to illustrate how conspiracist facts aren't actually facts. (I use conspiracy theories to teach research and fact checking to my college freshmen.)

Welcome to the Forums, Bob, and glad you got something out of it. I'm all but retired these days. I challenged the Truthers to say anything new and insightful -- just one instance -- over 50 days ago, and they've got nothing. They just want to argue. I can get that, and with more variety, any time I want from unfortunates on public transit.

---

This gaffe of Gage's, though, has provided a great deal of unintentional humor. Some of the best I've ever seen is in process now at Screw Loose Change. The comments from their local illiterate are just astonishingly stupid:

Epic Truther Winner said:
Ian, since I spend most of my waking hours reading and writing, I can pretty easily get a sense of when a writer is trying to communicate with me and when a writer is trying to do a snow job.

[...]

Nobody here has read it, nobody is going to read it, it's just a Big Fat Bible you can wave while claiming "the answers are all in there!"

The answers are all in my nine-hour DVD, just $55.55, and if ya'all are too lazy to watch it you can just STFU.

[...]

Are you deliberately missing the point that Mr. Mackey seems to have deliberately written something that nobody with any sense would read?

So, let's see here... this individual is basically saying that my paper must be nonsense, because it's deliberately written in such a way that he can't comprehend it. Or because it's too long. Or because -- since he hasn't read it, and naturally he must be smarter than anyone else -- nobody else has read it either.

Even more astonishing, he finds it so impenetrable that he compares it to a "nine-hour DVD." Yes, that's right, Truthers only receive information in video form. :D

But even funnier is the hypocrisy. He's complaining about my paper? It is, admittedly, about 290 pages including all the appendices -- I wanted to be thorough. I also make no claim to be a writer on par with Hemingway or even George RR Martin, far from it. But my paper is about the same size as Dr. Griffin's book, upon which it is based, something that is in fact hard to read because it jumps all over the place, like any other Truther. Anyway, in his mind, apparently thoroughness naturally equates to misinformation!

More importantly, though, he's speaking in defense of Richard Gage. Gage is the guy selling DVD's on his website ("free with purchase of $40 or more!"), not me. I don't make a dime off my paper, nor is it my full-time job to work on these things. I did it in my spare time. Gage, on the other hand, wanders the earth like an itinerant priest, where he hypnotizes the faithful with a PowerPoint slide deck 567 pages deep -- and not one fact to be found in the whole damn thing.

Gage even complained that I hadn't replied to Jim Hoffman. My response was out only six days after his latest draft (Hoffman has never released a "final" version), and about a year before Gage ever even heard about my whitepaper in the first place. And a year before he promised to respond to it, with the whole weight of his organization, something they never even attempted to do.

And this is the Truth Movement's current darling.

Seriously, I'm trying to imagine a way in which someone could fail harder, and it's just not coming to me. This is the Truth Movement in a nutshell. They're nuts, but unlike a common derelict they're sufficiently functional to really, seriously embarrass themselves. Pity they seem incapable of understanding even that much.

Gage does not have the time to do research, it will interfere with his fraud of getting people to donate to A&E.

2007 FORM 990-EZ - gross receipts - $45,132 2008 FORM 990-EZ - gross - $149,579 - 2009 FORM 990-EZ - gross - $344,570 - His goal, to make money, what is the goal for those too dumb to know they made a mistake donating part of the 300k? Gage is refining his fraud, his talk, he has no time to do more than use hearsay to attack Mackey; using hearsay as your evidence is a classic tactic for frauds, it is the backbone of 911 truth.

Little help?

All,

I am looking for a reference for the next SI article; I swear it's on-topic b/c it's related to that Truth event.

I am looking for a better reference for the following file than scribd:

XXX.scribd.com/doc/21193128/09-10-09-Lehner-Order

I don't have a legal database at Georgia Tech. (Hell, as of the first we won't have the OED. Damn.) I was wondering if someone does have a better reference?

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Ahh, the famous NYCCAN('t) attempt to petition for a special panel to investigate 9/11. Yeah, I remember that one; we discussed it here:
http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149614

LashL may remember what the relevant docs were. Anyone should be able to find them in Pacer (the online courts documents repository), I think. Anyway, what "references" are you referring to? Discussions on the case? Or just alternate sites to get the court docs themselves (if this last, www.pacer.gov)?

I recently attended a conspiracy theory conference and one speaker, a bloke named Eric Jon Phelps, accused the Jesuits of...pretty much everything bad ever (very 19th century, I thought). Anyway, because the conference also addressed UFOs and alien cover-ups, I asked him if he believed in aliens. His reply was, and this is verbatim:

“There are no such things as aliens. The ‘Grays’ [big-headed aliens with large dark eyes] are creations of the Jesuits in their deep underground military bases through their genetic experimentation. All the grays are hybrids. They cannot reproduce; they live short lives; they are lesser than what a man is—that’s one of the signs of a hybrid. What I maintain is that the Jesuits have perfected their antigravity craft, and god knows what other technology, and so what they did when they crashed at Roswell, they put those little creatures in there."

I was wondering if the Society of Jesus could comment on this allegation. (It would be completely awesome in every conceivable way if they would confirm it.) I'm also curious to know what possible use the Jesuits would have for antigravity craft.

I ask this question in all possible (not much) seriousness, and a reply would be on the record.
The Jesuits have remained disturbingly, perhaps tellingly, silent on this matter. Coincidence? Read the book! :) Consider this a JREF exclusive.

At the risk of being utterly off topic that reminds me a bit of 'Six Flags over Roswell'.:D

Thanks for that link. I will treasure the epigram:

"My approach depends on examining the six versions as a developmental sequence in which the considerable differences between the core scenarios of each version -- which appear at first glance to confuse and obstruct analysis -- actually provide essential clues that reveal the true nature of these tales."
-- Charles A. Ziegler, in UFO Crash At Roswell: The Genesis of a Modern Myth

Lovely. BTW, I'm signing up for the PACER account. Thanks very much. I just hate to cite something in an article that says, "found unsourced pdf on the Internet that looks pretty authoritative to my untrained eye." I have university access to NexisLexis Academic, one of my favorite databases--transcripts, legal case history, global periodicals. Yum! NYS Supreme Court are not all on there, however.

I take it all back.

It's clear that for someone that articulate and smart, it is hard work to be so stupid. Clearly he's worth all the money he steals from the gullible.

I've driven through there a few times on the way to Dayton, Cincinnati, or Kentucky, but never stopped that I can remember. I've occasionally heard it mentioned on the local news and our newscasters have always pronounced it that way.

We should force this guy to get a JREF account....imagine the bloodletting he'd get on here!
Who Gage? Not a chance. His site originally had a forum that he shut down because too many of us signed up.

I went to his show last year in Boston. Yes, it's a show. He only preaches to the chior and will not answer any questions that are contradictory to his belief.

I've talked face to face with him. He can lie and not even flinch, He'll even give you a **** you wink.

This gig is his job, he's not stupid, no way is truth going to get in his way.

Is there some reason Ryan Mackey's essay is being called a "White Paper"?

yes... and say "thanks for being a good sport." That line sealed the deal for me. He knows he is selling snake oil.

Me handing Gage the Ryan Mackey paper..... almost 2 years ago.
