Merged OJ Simpson Found the Killer!

Let me just say to all those skeptics out there who said that OJ clearly wasn't serious about finding the killer since he kept golfing so much, you've all been proven wrong: OJ found the killer on a golf course! That'll show you all.

My own theory: A deal fell through because Ophrah would not cough up all the money that Simpson would want for doing this in an interview.

It seems to me a more likely theory is that the producer actually was contacted by representatives of Simpson, terms were negotiated, and the interview will be the premiere episode of Oprah's new show. In other words, they deny that Simpson has actually confessed to the producer -- because that's probably technically true (and who cares because we're not talking journalism here anyway) -- so that hopefully short-term interest will die down, then stoke the publicity fires just prior to showing the interview.

After all, Oprah is ridiculously rich and has her own cable network. It's unlikely that she'd balk at just about any amount of money for which Simpson could reasonably ask; making the early episodes of her new show "event TV" would be worth a whole lotta cash. She could also make sure the Goldmans finally get the balance of the money Simpson owes them, reaping yet another PR windfall.

Daily Mail: OJ Simpsons confesses murder to Oprah Winfrey

Sorry didn't see the other thread started on this subject, please ignore.

Mods please delete, my apologies.

I read the article...

Where was the knife that Nicole used to try to kill OJ? That would've been found at the scene, right? This interview might be happening but his story doesn't add up.

No-one's skeptic bells are being rung loudly by this being from the National Enquirer?

OJ's retirement is sacrosnact, but any monies from a book or TV deal would go to the Goldmans/OJ's kids. So OJ has no profit motive.

Though being in prison, maybe he has finally been forced to kick the coke habit? Got religion, cleansing his soul?

Hey, any chance of a federal case? Like McVeigh, tried once at the state level, again by the feds.

I think you mean Terry Nichols. McVeigh was only tried once.

McVeigh was tried by the feds for the death of 8 federal agents. They didn't have jurisdiction over the other 160 murders (161 if you count the fetus). Oklahoma decided not to try McVeigh because he was sentenced to death. No need to kill him twice, right?

Nichols was convicted of lesser charges in federal court and only got life in prison. That's when Oklahoma decided to take a second bite of the apple. He got an additional 161 life sentences as a result.

Edit: I forgot to answer your question. OJ cannot be tried twice because both murders fall under state jurisdiction.

I'm sure he can get coke in prison.

I don't think so. The feds were able to try McVeigh because it was an act of terrorism and because he killed several federal agents. OK didn't even bother to try him because he get the death penalty in federal court. You might be confusing him with his accomplice, Terry Nichols who was tried in both state and federal court (but didn't get the needle in either one).

He's already in prison and can't be tried again for killing his wife.

If someone later confesses would that not be enough to re-try? I don't know how double jeopardy works, but surely there are some caveats in there no?

To my understanding, (admittedly I'm a complete layman regarding the law) you can retry someone for a crime if new evidence is discovered that was not part of the original trial and said evidence was likely to lead the jury to a different conclusion. An admittance of guilt would count, wouldn't it?

No. Acquittals are final in the US no matter what.
