The Biblical Realities of Hell

You just have to look 12,900 years or so then the evidence starts to add up.
I don't know if it was global but they though to write this down in many cultures, with all the races that are here now, I would have to say there were more survivors.
There's major proof of major flooding and if that would happen today, it would be devastating.
It would be?
Hell On Earth...One of the theories is comet or asteroid strike.

Yes,an asteroid would cause problems. Nothing to do with any god or gods.

All religions I know of with a few exceptions have a myth about a form of hell, and this is what this thread is about. Hell on Earth or anywhere.

You of course miss the point, until your sweet Jesus was written about, there was no Heaven for everyone and Hell for everyone too.

Paul

No it doesn't, though I'm glad to see that you don't buy the "6000 years old" age of earth that many Young Earth Creationists claim. Maybe there's hope for you yet to enter the real world.

Again, I'm impressed that you are no longer espousing biblical literalism. And yes, there are many races which could not possibly have evolved in the short time since written language appeared on earth. You're starting to get the picture. Now stretch your mind to accept the possibility of humanity existing for over a hundred thousand years. Really, these things take time.

There's major proof of major flooding and if that would happen today, it would be devastating.
What do you mean by "major". Heck, New Orleans had "major flooding". But really, places with limited communication would think that if their community were completely flooded, it might as well be the whole world. They had no way of knowing what happened a hundred miles away.

Hell On Earth...One of the theories is comet or asteroid strike.
Hell? No, not by any of the standard descriptions. A comet/asteroid strike probably threw up a layer of dust and debris that blocked the sun and made the earth very cold. That's not the traditional way "Hell" is described.

Face it. The real world does not fit any biblical descriptions. Bats are not birds. Light did not appear before the Sun. Plus, it's not flat. Time for biblical literalists to give up their fantasies.

"Major flooding" as in the Biblical flood?

If so, where did all that water come from? Where did it go?

Wow. I didn't know how confusing your posts were until I read this post. You see in one of my previous posts, I asked two questions

1) Wikipedia says the last pole flip was 780,000 years ago. Is that the number you were thinking of?

and

2)Did you want to take a moment to admit that it is virtually impossible for you to be more wrong in your claim?

When you said, "yes I was" I thought that meant "yes I was thinking of 780,000 years" and not "yes I was wrong."

From my perspective, I am happy I defended you when others suggested that you would never admit to making a mistake.

.............
Oh, and I don't mind the kidding at all.

The thread is kind of long and while I could search it to find the answer, I thought I might be able to quickly ask for clarification.

Edge, did you use the increase in natural disasters to come up with the December 2012 time frame for Biblical end times or did you arrive at that date range through some other means?

..................
I am convinced that enough other posters want to know the answer to that question so I don't feel I am being lazy by asking the question rather than looking for the previous explanation.

So what happened to all the people that lived before Christianity was invented?
Reagarind those born before Christianity;
I think Dante gives us more insight than The Bible. That is, more insight into religious beliefs on hell. Dante had all the "virtuous pagans" in a sort of eternal waiting room just outside of hell. Neither suffering nor in joy (kind of like where you sit while waiting to get your license at the DMV?).

Our concept of hell did not begin and end with the Bible. It's developed over time, mostly in the middle ages, I think, but it evolves even into the present day. Modern Catholic theologians describe hell as the complete abscense of God. And this abscence must be self imposed.

Oh well...hell for me is endless Reality TV programming.

What is that gibberish supposed to mean? South and left arm?
I think he may be referring to a possible increase in sun damage to the skin on the left arm in the countries where people drive on the right-hand side of the road, due to the left arm's being over-exposed to the sun through the car window. Of course that completely ignores the fact that there are countries where people drive on the left-hand side of the road.

Or it may be just more edge free-association word salad. (I certainly hope so - it just occurred to me: what would it say about me if I have begun to understand that brand of gibberish? )

Believing in the Noah flood, after all the advances in modern science, geology, biology and anthropology proving otherwise, just shows how moronic a person is. It should be a test for sterilization and incarnation.

So if you had authority nothing would change, all because you don’t understand, OK.
It might even get worse, which is what is in Revelation.
I wouldn't do that to my dog but you seem to have no problem doing it to a human?
Well then, there it is.

So if you had authority nothing would change, all because you don’t understand, OK.

We don't understand, it is you that backs up the idea of this horrible god, not us.

No real god needs a hell to control, only a limited one does.

I was speaking mostly about the U.S. since it was on the news here.
It's probably the opposite in other countries.

They may have this part right as NDEs seem to support this.

Especially now that they changed their requirements. :D

Well then if your not a horrible person then why you worried about god ending evil, isn't this what humans do in this reality, only with weapons?

It was brought to my attention because of everything that is going on this year.
And if you take it from the seventies till now there is and increase and then a leveling off a few years ago and this year another noticeable increase, which if surpasses last years mark then logically we need to observe 2012.
If that becomes more than this year, then we need to watch December, just for fun.
43 tornados last night through five states, there is a major drought in Texas, and the fires are still raging in Arizona.
In Florida there are at least 80 or more fires in three counties that surround the one I am living in, not to mention the panhandle around Tallahassee.
Some one by word of mouth told me that this continent is experiencing all natural disasters at once or at this time.
So it’s pretty obvious if you are paying attention.

Everything you say could be true, except this:
Light did not appear before the Sun. Plus, it's not flat.
The sun is what? A second-generation star and they knew that the Earth was a sphere long before they thought it was flat.

The Edge of Madness

Down that road lies madness.

Is this the thread about whether God is punishing us with natural disasters?

Or are the Biblical silliness threads pretty much interchangeable now?

The Greek and Nordic and the Roman religion all had a hell of sorts just to name a few plus their version of Heaven.

Egyptians Too:

Ancient EgyptThe afterlife played an important role in Ancient Egyptian religion, and its belief system is one of the earliest known. When the body died, parts of its soul known as ka (body double) and the ba (personality) would go to the Kingdom of the Dead. While the soul dwelt in the Fields of Aaru, Osiris demanded work as restitution for the protection he provided. Statues were placed in the tombs to serve as substitutes for the deceased.

Arriving at one's reward in afterlife was a demanding ordeal, requiring a sin-free heart and the ability to recite the spells, passwords and formulae of the Book of the Dead. In the Hall of Two Truths, the deceased's heart was weighed against the Shu feather of truth and justice taken from the headdress of the goddess Ma'at.[7] If the heart was lighter than the feather, they could pass on, but if it were heavier they would be devoured by the demon Ammit.

Egyptians also believed that being mummified was the only way to have an afterlife. Only if the corpse had been properly embalmed and entombed in a mastaba, could the dead live again in the Fields of Yalu and accompany the Sun on its daily ride. Due to the dangers the afterlife posed, the Book of the Dead was placed in the tomb with the body as well as food, jewellery, and 'curses'. They also used the "opening of the mouth".

All about the after life and what to expect.
Jesus just defined it for what it is and was in disagreement with the O.T...:jaw-dropp
