The Republican candidate you wish to get the nod

I wish to get the nomination:

  • Total voters
    78
He implied, alluded and shuffled his feet. I think he intended to run, but was destroyed by the Administration, and just about everyone else, before he took the step. There is, of course, the possibility that he did all of that just to win over viewers to his show, The Apprentice, but deep down, I think he really wanted to run.

More importantly, is this the weakest presidential field ever?

Democrats in '88 and '04 come close, and the '08 Republicans were pretty bad, but goddamn, this is pathetic. It's basically the already weak '08 field minus McCain, who was semi-credible until he lost his mind.

I'm guessing you'd have to go back to some of the goofballs that tried running against FDR to get something this awful. What's more amazing, however, is that there isn't any other Republican figure in the country that just happen to be sitting this one out. Whatever you think about Hillary Clinton, everyone knew that she would be a formidable candidate in '08 when we were picking through corpses in '04.

I went with Bachmann purely for entertainment purposes.

Very true and it's especially funny to me given all the "wait until 2012" talk the right has thrown around.

If you plan to beat a rather popular incumbent you better bring a little something to the dance.

You know who would have a good chance against Obama? John McCain circa 2000.
But that was just before he lost his honor and bent over for Bush. Details in one of the Carolinas and what they did to him there. (I'd make it ca. 1999 due to my unsure dates on the Carolina thing.)

That Huntsman fella, was just recently ambassador to China.

Might have a clue, might not.

Wishing Kinky Friedman was running ...

don't you people have any aspirations for a credible and intelligent president?:boggled:
Who owes his/her office to teabaggers and fundies and a senate and house with lots of anal orifices who owe them too? No. Otherwise, yes.

Unfortunately, Ron Paul is the only person on that list that:
1 - I have heard of and
2 - Stands by what he says.

I can not believe how many goofballs and sleazebags want to run for president on the Republican ticket.

Sarah Palin! You betcha! And hopefully someone can talk Trump into being her running mate.

Most hilarious election ever.

The only thing I would have to be concerned about is if they actually, somehow won. In which case, I'm leaving the planet.

Peter Fitzgerald write in, not that he is running or even in politics anymore, but considering how his history relates to Obama's, it would be interesting.

For those that don't know, Fitzgerald is the only prominent Illinois politician to make a serious attempt to crack down on the state's rampant corruption in my lifetime. Naturally this led to the Republicans chasing him out of town, Obama won his Senate seat. In other words, most people would have never heard of Obama if Fitzgerald did not have so much integrity and/or the Illinois Republican Party were not so corrupt. Fortunately, Patrick Fitzgerald (no relation) is still around acting as a wrecking ball against corrupt politicians. Peter Fitzgerald only served one term but his work continues by some of his appointees.

I have nothing against him, but I don't understand what appointments, as a U.S. Senator, or state Senator before that, Fitzgerald made.

I voted Fred Karger, because gay Republican politicians are truly brave souls (if they're out).

You sound a little 'noid.

In any case, I voted for Cain. Not only do I enjoy using Cain & Abel "software", but this Cain guy used to manage some Burger Kings. In fact, he was so good at it, they let him be the CEO of a pizza company, Godfather's.

Now, I have never had a Godfather's pizza, not sure why...but he was so good at that, that he and some rich dudes, bought the Goddamn pizza company from Pillsbury.

Now, the real reason I voted for Cain, is because he's black. I would love to see the racist baggers run from the election booth in '12. "Excuse me, ya mean I have to chose between a Halfrican, and an African? Not today Jim Bob".

No matter who gets the nod on that list, Obama will be with us till '16, and for that I'll die in peace.

If Cain gets the Rep nomination against Obama maybe David Duke will run as an independent.

Let's hope so. It would be too too sad if racist pinheads had no one to vote for.

In a three way race between Obama, Cain, and Duke, what percentage of the White vote do you think would go to Duke?

Rounded off to the nearest whole number? 0%. Even the Libertarians would give that clown a drubbing.

It would be much more awesome to have both candidates be people who will support policies that are good for the country. I think the current President is a very vivid example of what can be expected when we elect a President simply for the novelty of his race or some similarly irrelevant characteristic, without regard to whether he possesses the character and qualifications for that office.
As opposed to our other choices, the wife of the President, the President's son, a man who ran one of the most inept campaigns in recorded history, or an Alaskan hillbilly who is a genuine and unequivocal idiot?

It really irritates me that you'd suggest Obama was elected "simply for the novelty of his race." If that were the case then Jesse Jackson would've already been President. Obama was and is leagues above the other major candidates intellectually and is one of the most charismatic speakers to ever appear on the American political scene. Possibly the most.

Regardless, I've got news for you: The Presidency is a load of ********. A couple million people half-mindedly flipping switches for the person who they like the most is not the method to find the person most fit to direct a trillion dollars and a military force powerful enough to end the world.

I haven't seen a Republicon who thought like a grown-up for decades,
That's ironic because a key sign of immaturity is thinking that your own opinions are fact and anyone who disagrees with you must have some personality deficiency.

Four years of debating politics and skeptical thinking, and I still prefer Ron Paul. Yeah, he's got some silly ideas on the Federal Reserve (and he may even have written racist letters a while back), but the president's role is in foreign policy and Ron Paul still has the best stance on that front.

He also supported the repeal of don't ask, don't tell in the military; and he is the most pro-civil rights candidate on the democratic or republican side.

Plus, I can't stand any of the other republican candidates.

I guess it depends on how you define civil rights, considering that Paul just followed son Rand in denouncing the Civil Rights Act.

Bolding mine. Are you serious? He rails against earmarks, votes against spending bills because of them, yet stuffs more earmarks for his district in these bills than most anyone, knowing the bills are going to pass. Stands by what he says? Pffftttt.
