General Israel/Palestine discussion thread

Why do you keep dodging the question? You whine, cry, and moan about how misunderstood you are. You called me a liar for claiming that you don't expect anything at all from the Palestinians in order for them to get statehood, yet it appears this is exactly the case.
...
Let him whinge in the corner.

This bit of the thread is long over, done and dusted, passé, etc.

It must be embarrassing for a_u_p and bikerdruid who rushed to your defense, ony to have you throw them under the bus by demondtrating I was right all along.
I found it more comical that those two, with their history of posts of great veracity, would actually come to TF's aid.

"Violence erupted on Israel's borders with Syria, Lebanon and Gaza on Sunday, leaving at least eight dead and dozens wounded, as Palestinians marked what they term "the catastrophe" of Israel's founding in 1948."

Peace in our time? I doubt it.

"A Palestinian teenager was shot dead during protests in Jerusalem on Friday. Police said it was unclear who had shot him and they were investigating."

Want to bet that this one Palestinian death will cause wide international condemnation, and "peace activists" will take to the streets, while Syria and Bahrain are killing hundreds every week and no "peace activist" says anything?

Cheers Bigjel

That's a concern sure, but I doubt in the court of world opinion, Israel will ever win especially with the incessant cannon fodder Hamas/Fatah/etc. churns out with its subsequent PR ploys. Israel could definitely do better though....

As far as I can tell, Israel is still winning in the court of world opinion, I'll enter the constant whining that the far left does about " bias in the mainstream media" as evidence. I'm not singling out any one media outlet, say Faux news, but the MSM in general, leaving the anti-Israel crowd with sites like Globalresearch et al, and the blogosphere as their only "reliable" sources of information.

By the way, the "moderate" Abbas declared today the Palestinians will never "cease struggling" until Israel is destroyed through the "right of return".

I bet you $100 he said no such thing, and this is a gross mischaracterization of his statement.

Such as recognizing Israel's right to exist? Removing language from their official documents calling for Israel's destruction?

And this has to happen as a condition of getting their state?

until Israel officially recognizes the right of a Palestinian state in most of the WB, EJ, and all of Gaza, the Palestinians are really under no moral obligation to officially recognize Israel.

How about their Parliaments simply swap recognition letters?

Israeli forces open fire at Palestinian protesters

shooting protestors....sorry, is this israel or libya?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/mobile/world-middle-east-13373006

Israeli forces have fired on groups of protesters at borders with the Palestinian territories, Syria and Lebanon.

Reports say that at least 12 people have died and dozens more have been injured.

.....................

On the Israel-Gaza frontier, at the Erez border crossing, Israeli troops opened fire with tanks and machine guns, injuring dozens, Palestinian medical officials said.

It had to happen in Israel for you to notice.

I doubt the IDF shoots live rounds at demonstrators.

These "protestors" tried to invade Israel -- forcibly cross the border -- from Lebanon and Syria. They were, as you noted, "protesting" Israel's existence, which they call the "Nakba" -- the "disaster".

It wasn't a "protest", it was an act of war.

shooting unarmed protestors is now ok, as long as it is israel doing the shooting.

"Unarmed protestors" who deliberately cross and invade another country's borders are not protestors, but invaders. Of course it's OK to shoot them -- it's the same with any country whose borders are invaded.

There were, incidentally, many protests in Israel on this day. Anybody killed in those protests? No. Why? Because they were not invading Israel's borders, so they were not committing an act of war.

But hey, good idea. I think Israel, if it wants some more territory, should just send some unarmed citizens across the Syrian border. I'm sure the Syrian army won't mind.
