Right after I posted that previous post, I checked my email and found from James VanPraagh advertising reduced rates on his upcoming spiritual Cruise - tickets include being entered into a raffle to win a private reading from JVP himself!!

They could do what my local Kroger does: sometimes they have tags that read "New low price" with a price listed that is more than the old low price. So they could jack up the price of a reading with Chris to $500 or $550 and call it a "New Low Price!"

I love the idea of you starting a thread on this, ExMinister. And I'd also love to read the transcript in its entirety. Perhaps you could consider writing a summary in a new thread and loading the full document online at scribd.com and post a link to it in your thread. It's really easy to use!

ETA: Or, if you like, you could email the document to me and I could upload it to my existing scribd account and then send you the link to post, if that would help. :)
 
Rasmus and Ex-Min...you're right. Not average people at all working for Sylvia! Also, good point that she's probably stuck with some. Also, when one works for a celebrity it can certainly goes to some people's heads.

Robert...LOL'S!!! Van Praagh??? ROFL! Sorry, but reduced rates to travel with him? He's nice and polite, but in readings he's just so...what's the word... Well, he's almost TOO polite and even condescending without perhaps realising it. And always asking a question and then saying, "Please" just forces people to answer!

"Name, please?" "Has she passed, please?" ARGH!!! It's enough to drive me up the proverbial wall!

Oh, Ex-Min, I hope you can start a thread with your reading. If possible, that is. Also, LashL has a good idea. A link to whatever that account is sounds good. :)

thing definitely comes off as an affectation, an attempt to seem The Gentleman. But it doesn't bother me. What bothers me are exchanges like:
JVP: Was he (the "spirit") your husband?
Sitter: Yes!
JVP (nodding wisely) ...because he is saying "I'm her husband! I'm her husband!!"

- or -
JVP: Was your mother buried?
Sitter: Yes!
JVP (nodding wisely) ...because she is telling me that she was buried, and it confused her.

- or -
JVP: Did (deceased child) have a toy she loved so much it began to fall apart?
Sitter: Yes, she had a stuffed Pink Panther she carried til the head fell off!
JVP: (nodding wisely)...because she is showing me a Pink Panther.

Utterly despicable. And notice that in each case, the question is asked in a way which would give him a "hit" regardless of the answer. as in:
JVP: Was he (the "spirit") your husband?
Sitter: No.
JVP (nodding wisely) ...because he is saying "I'm not her husband! I'm not her husband!!"

I'd be interested in reading it, too. I really think that commented, to point out the cold-reading techniques and clean misses, it might predispose someone to have an eye opened when those same techniques are used on them.
 
ExM, I had hoped, back in the day, to write an article about your reading.

I still do, but who knows when that would be possible. But I'd love it if you'd email the transcript to me, along with your notes on hits/misses. I'd write it up as I would for an SSB article, and then post it as a new thread here, and later on SSB when that's doable.

I hear you, Minarvia. Most of us feel the exact same way.

The best explanation: con artists have zero respect for the people they are conning. They think of them as stupid and naive and so treat them as such. Perhaps this lack of respect and contempt carries over into their interactions with all people.

You are right. Being mean and nasty takes more energy than the default, which is using basic manners. Unless you are accustomed to being impolite, in which case that is the default for you and showing proper decorum is what takes extra effort.

hm ....

either way, it would be an interesting read - but I think a summary might not do it justice.

The complete version would be able to show things better:

- what has *really* been said, of course. The full dose of the reading techniques she uses, etc.

- what little value you get out of a long reading! That you are willing to summarize the thing suggests to me that there was a lot of fluff in it, minutes wasted on repetitions, many misses that are quickly dropped and the subject changed and just things that are not important.

- 30 minutes now come at $850. (Just wow! Just one of those per week and I could easily quit my job ...) That's $28.33 per minute. For that type of money, you should expect every single second to be full of relevant, important (dare I say highly accurate) information. Let's see how many of the minutes would be worth paying for. (At that price, I don't even want her to waste precious seconds on "Hello" or "Goodbye". I realize she is not charging by the minute but you end up paying for the minutes after all ...)

You could scan it as images, if you don't already have it in an electronic format, and if typing it up would cause too much trouble.

Just out of curiousity, how much does JVP charge for repeating information the sitter has told him, back to them ?
