You would think after the response they got from 9/11 HIS way of thinking would shift. If 9/11 has taught the world anything, it's that the United States won't sit back and say "Oh you got us!", we'll be coming for payback...unfortunately. More war, more senseless death is all it will cause.

Warmongers throughout history have never heeded the simple idea 'war begets war'. They always think theirs will be the last, definitive struggle, with peace afterwards - and it never turns out that way.

I used to think that Bin Laden may have been trying to induce the US into a long, exhausting foreign war/occupation, along the lines of the Soviets in Afghanistan. I'm not so sure that was his central aim after reading his various proclamations and also from this journal...

That's pretty naive thinking. Warmongers believe that a perpetual state of war is healthy for the state. That's why when there is no enemy present you have to create one.

We didn't create one, stay on topic.

Which is why Osama Bin Laden attacked the United States, of course. He hoped to make the USA the enemy of Islam, hence creating an enemy to make his brand of militant fundamentalist Islam healthier.

It's nice to see you side with reality for once.

Actually, OBL acheived exactly what he set out to do. His goal was to pull the US into Afghanistan where it would over time be devastated over time. The Soviet jihad was the model.

Second, he desired martyrdom. He attained that one for sure. Only time will tell if he attained the first, but the economic news of late does seem to indicate partial success.
