May Stundie Nominations

As much as I am loathe to post this, knowing that the stundie nominee will see it as vindication (because you know the near laboratory conditions sought by Savage and Hyneman are basically the same as a pitched firefight in a blacked out compound with dozens of SEALS and terrorists) Mythbusters did tackle the "shooting down the barrel or another gun" myth and the Hathcock story and found both to be plausible:

A bullet can be shot into the empty chamber of another revolver.

confirmed

The MythBusters were actually able to fire a bullet straight down the chamber of the test revolver. The bullet went in and lodged itself inside the chamber, matching the photograph that the MythBusters had.

A sniper can kill another sniper by shooting them straight through the scope.

plausible*

Using a police industry standard SWAT sniper rifle and standard police match ammunition, the MythBusters fired several shots at a scoped rifle mounted on a ballistics gel dummy. Unfortunately, the bullet was unable to hit the dummy. The bullet was either stopped or deflected by the multiple layers of lenses in the scope, leaving the dummy relatively unharmed. Without any clear evidence that a bullet can penetrate a sniper scope, the MythBusters decided to label the myth as busted.

*This myth was originally labeled "busted," but due to much debate by viewers it was revisited in episode 75. Using a period-accurate scope (this myth originates from reports of Carlos Hathcock in the Vietnam War), it was found to be plausible.

We are ethically bound to tell the whole truth, it's not our fault if the mentally deficient take it and run off in a retarded direction.

The Stundieness comes in the suggestion that the SEALS should have just strolled in, and shot the guns out of their hands and/or shot them through their sniper scopes, as they seem to think that's a simple and commonplace skill, rather than being such a rare and notable event that we're still referring by name to the one guy who did that once during the last 50 years or so.

Not a stundie candidate by definition, but I just have to share this:

One of my brighter employees coughed this one up in our weekly staff meeting in regard to the US operation against bin Laden.

Yes, he was completely serious.

He's right - and, in case you needed further proof, the winds were calm in that region; the Navy ships couldn't have put on enough sail to get in and out of there so quickly...

The problem isn't that you can't disable a gun by shooting down the barrel, it's the idea that anyone in a combat situation would be capable of such a feat of marksmanship. A gun firing from a benchrest into another secured gun? Sure. A guy in a firefight firing a round down the barrel of someone shooting at him? No. It would be the absolute purest fluke, and no one in their right mind would train soldiers to rely on flukes.

I was playing paintball once (the first of only 3 times I've played it, actually), someone had a paintball go right down the barrel of his gun. Made a horrible mess which he had to spend over an hour cleaning. It was pure[\I] fluke. And it was the only time anyone there had seen or heard of such. But it is possible. Even if only by chance.

I have a feeling this is going to be a REALLY good month for Stundies.

You are psychic?

"How much chemtrail have we been sniffing?

These people have had a plan for 100's of years, they dont make slip ups like this unless it is intentional.

they rule the world ffs.

isnt this worth one consideration why its all happening now. ( no more trolls please)
every economy is bankrupt theres f ***ing nothing left, there is no where for them to go or hide theres no more excuses.

Go back to 2001 and and compare the major stories which we couldnt make sense of, that has kept us all engrossed and blinkered.

They have all come back to us over the last 4 months all of them.

its like the epilogue.
9/11 - osama bin laden- jackson - Madeline Mc cann- wikileaks nuclear - and theres more etc - to now! - all in the last 4 months where all these have come back to us to create as much as a diversion as possible.
its like throwing the book at us and overloading us.

Everything falls into place.

this a massive diversion plan possibly for the nukes at the end of May.
come on guys we cannot be that stupid.

Just look at it all?

Please ask yourself, stand back a little please

no sense whatsoever this is to fuel us to constantly debate it. they are not this stupid.

I have seen this and this is the Result of their end game."

Take your pick, I think there's a few in that one:jaw-dropp

Nukes at the end of May? Bummer, where can I hide?

Like I said, I'm not disputing that. What makes it stundie-worthy is the suggestion that the soldier who shot bin Laden should have aimed and fired with the intent of putting a bullet down the barrel of bin Laden's gun. Go back to that paintball field and see how many goes it takes you to recreate that fluke, then guess how practical it would be to train soldiers to aim for such shots.

Linking it all together:

The great Obama can say he got him and get re-elected along with his phony birth certificate. State Dept. of course increased the Terror threat level. Mark my words when the S&P 500 gets to the level it did on 911 or the financial "collapse" another event will take place, stroked by the media to sink it back down. All so a few wealthy British women can wear idiotic hats.

Sort of.

let us examine "almost zero chance"

almost zero - indicates that it may be, however small, it may be in existence.

without proof one way or to the contrary of that way, yet the acknowledgement that it may exist is there. I would then have to say it might or it might not exist...that in my books is a 50-50 chance...far from almost zero as monsieur trolle in the form of noconsentforme posts, false and misleading statements.
FMOTL the eternal optimists.

Reminds me of the naked gun, "Doctors say that Nordberg has a 50/50 chance of living, though there's only a 10 percent chance of that. "

In the memorable movie Towering Inferno, a helicopter rescues some people on the roof of the skyscraper ... the 9 / 11 did not even try. Strange, no? in fiction, an explosive charge under the large water tank solves the problem. There was water in the tanks of the WTC towers? no? and what would be the reason for his absence?

Hehe...I love how truthers can't tell the difference between real life and fiction. Plus, he got it wrong...in the movie they attempted a helicopter rescue, but the copter crashed.

Kinda my point, actually.

Okay, it will probably be in unless the month is really overloaded.

He did mention how it happened in "fiction" which sort of makes it sadder that he can't figure out why it didn't happen in "real life."
