Merged Rumor that the Higgs Boson has been detected

"Found"? Hell I've got three in a box here someplace. Had them for years.
Wait a minute and I'll find them...

I really hope it isn't found, I quite like the idea that everyone is going to have to go back and start again! :)

Why do people call it the "god" particle? Why would we name a particle that could be real after a thing that is not? Is there also a gremlin particle?

I would not be so quick. For one from what course the net it seems the result are not coherent with what is predicted, for second science is not about rumour it is about what is verified, published and replicated.

If we go by rumour, well i heard those pons and fleishman guy had a nice cold fusion device...

I guess we have to thank Leon Lederman for that name(or at least the marketing guy(if any) who came up with the title of his book).

@Darat: I would like that idea too.

There's an Adam's Apple on your throat, a Jacob's Ladder in your high-voltage lab, a ladybug (named after the Virgin Mary) eating aphids on the fairy-bells in your garden. They're just names.

Anyway, the "god particle" is a journalist/pop-culture nickname for a particle that everyone else calls the Higgs Boson.

Already heard about this... until there is some kind of solid confirmation via replicating the results, meh.
