Progressive Radio Rants -- Minimum Wage

Apparently I am stealing if I don't pay him a "day's provisions". It isn't clear how that standard applies to part time work.

come on, man...you really just feigning dense, right?
part-time work is still at the same wage/hr.
giving the neighbour's kid $20 bucks for an hour or two is very fair.
this isn't really that difficult, right?

or, a day's provisions for a day's work.
:)

After you guys have starved all the unskilled poor and failed entrepreneurs we will have a much more efficient workforce.

That's ok, because the GOP will save the day by allowing sweatshops and child-labor to take place in the USA again.

In other words, there are deleterious effects.
Of course there are. Everything that works has side effects. That in itself does not invalidate them

That's a rather major point, a point which many advocates of minimum wage try to avoid acknowledging.
They acknowledge that by saying that they do not advocate ridiculous minimum wage hikes.

Why? All of the unskilled workers who may be willing to take such a job would already have starved if you guys got your way.

So you guys are okay with part time jobs? In practice, people often take part time jobs to add to their own income or to what someone else in their household makes. What's wrong with that?

And if you had your way, they'd burn up and die in sweatshop accidents making 50/cents a day. And if they survived working in a dangerous environment, they'd still starve.

Where did you get that idea? Almost all jobs pay above the current minimum wage, obviously there isn't the race to the bottom that you imagine there to be.

Simplistic whining. If there are entrepreneurs willing to pay a decent day's orvisions for a decent day's work, there will be opportunities for others to start businesses and hire the remaining workers, even the stupid jerk who thought he knew what he was doing.

Listening to the drongos whining about the minimum wage, it is clear that a lot of them want to pay less and are only constrained by the force of law from doing so.

why would there be something wrong with that?
taking an extra job is common, but, they must pay at least the minimum wage.
why is that such a difficult concept for some of you to grasp?:boggled:

Raising minimum wage will not suddenly make employees more valuable. People who cannot contribute enough to the company to justify the wage will lose their jobs.

If that were true they wouldn't pay more now. The floor would be the most they would pay.

isn't that the way it has always been?
people that do not do their job to the minimum acceptable level, get fired.
how and why will that change if the minimum wage applies or not?

Is it really not obvious?

If their salary is increase, the "minimum acceptable level" will have to increase too. Which will lead to people losing their jobs.
