The refrain that child rape is a reality in the Church is twice wrong: let’s get it straight—they weren’t children and they weren’t raped. We know from the John Jay study that most of the victims have been adolescents, and that the most common abuse has been inappropriate touching (inexcusable though this is, it is not rape). The Boston Globe correctly said of the John Jay report that “more than three-quarters of the victims were post pubescent, meaning the abuse did not meet the clinical definition of pedophilia.” In other words, the issue is homosexuality, not pedophilia.

Phew, thanks for setting that straight. It's all OK, then.

No, the issue is not homosexuality, it's sexual assault.

They seem to forget the point that its all a sin whatever definition unless it's between married people. They arn't so scared of what happens after they die as they try to make their parishioners! This religion seriously disturbs young people into not fiddling with themselves, while they protect grown men who fiddle with young people!

That quote has Bill Donohue stink all over it. And sure enough . . .

Ah, but if you remain faithful and true and show up every week and do the rituals and pay into the collection plate, you can be absolved of all your sins! No matter how bad they are. As long as you keep in the club, everything will work out just fine.

Of course you're going to have priests molesting people. They believe they can forgive each other for it, and that that forgiveness (done with the right rituals) trumps things like ethics or the law. Because they say that Jesus says so, and they would know, right, because they are the experts on Jesus, according to Jesus, according to them. And if they're lying about that....well, they'll just forgive themselves for it! The system works!

While it's true that the word pedophile is abused so much that it has become nearly totally worthless that's not really relevant. It would be just as bad if people were molesting and raping thirty year old priest and hushing it up, transporting the perpetrators from parish to parish. Though it's obvious that a thirty year old man is more capable of punching in ones face than an 15 year old boy.

Teenage boys might just be the most attractive and hottest thing in the whole universe but that sure as hell doesn't give one the right to molest them, rape them or bother them into sex.

I think you were trying to say:

The British atheist Richard Dawkins is no fan of Catholicism. But he is honest enough to say that the Catholic Church “has been unfairly demonized over the issue, especially in Ireland and America.” Now if Dawkins gets it, why can’t others?

So only a quarter of the victims were children, therefore it's not paedophilia? How does that work? Is it a specific number that have to be abused to count as paedophilia, or is one quarter always below the limit regardless of the numbers?
