Merged nuclear power safe?

Took me all of 0.16 seconds to find it.

Ha ! You beat me by 0.03 seconds !

As for those saying it should be taken out of the hand of tepco , I haven't yet heard a good justification for that. What would have been done better by other team ? Communication might be a point, but the rest, you have no good argument to say another team would have done better.

Especially if all the signs , plans, schematic, and documentation are in Japanese and needs to be translated first.

This really needs to be taken out of TEPCO's hands.

The same applied to 3 Mile Island.

There was just as much mismanagement and fraudelent record keeping there as there is in Japan.

IMO, removing TEPCO would achieve absolutely nothing, just as removing Met-Ed from 3 Mile Island would have achieved nothing.

Since they are American designed reactors, I'm betting most of it is in English.

The problem is not just communication, but being prepared to forget about pride and just ask for help when it is needed.

Again you do not tell exactly what help would have been provided which would have made the situation better.

It is just another random throw-in without substance.

PS: American designed does not mean there was no modification for local custom or material, or even that the sign and schematic are in english.

I have said some of it already, but OTTOMH.

Fresh water, rather than problematic salt water.
Expertise and advice, such as vent the hydrogen gas from enclosed areas as early as possible so there is less chance of more explosions after the first one, advice on managing the reactors in the circumstances by the companies that designed them.
Safety equipment.
Portable generators.
Measuring equipment.
Robots for dangerous areas.
Cooling equipment.
Containers for holding dangerous water and materials.

Pray tell, what do they suggest ? Solar only ? :D

Oh no, solar cells use all kinds of nasty elements that have to be dug up and processed, can't have any of that. They probably kick kittens in their spare time as well.

That's the basic problem with environmentalists, or at least the more vocal ones - they don't suggest anything, just complain about everything. Fossil fuels are dirty and evil. Nuclear has the word "nuclear" in it. Wind kills birds. Hydro involves dams. Wave power kills sea kittens. Tidal is like hydro only worse. Geothermal involves holes, mines are also holes, therefore bad. Solar has nasty chemicals.

The trouble is that there are plenty of valid points in there, but it's almost impossible to have a sensible discussion about any of it because of all the people shouting about how a geothermal borehole ate their baby. See this thread for some perfect examples.

1. Not properly performing radiation surveys in areas where workers are working.

200 millisieverts per hour is not enough to give beta radiation burns, that takes more.

Of course, some of us were actually capable of reading the article and saw this part:
their feet were exposed to between 2 and 6 sieverts
Also, it wasn't 200 mSv per hour, it was 200 mSv. Another perfect example of how it's impossible to have a sensible discussion due to all the people throwing around accusations without bothering to read or understand the issues first.

Rubbish. E.g.: http://www.zerocarbonbritain.com/

Quit ranting like a sentimental old drunk!

The human species has been a disaster for many of our planet's creatures and ecosystems. It'a takes a special kind of blinkered arrogance not to be an environmentalist.

I saw that on TV at lunch time. "No danger" they say. Well, duh. We're so far away from Japan that if we're in danger, Japan, China and half of Russia are fried.

Rolfe.
