Presidential Primaries 2012

Pawlenty has a good shot. He ruined Minnesota, so now on to the rest of the country. But he is very smart, very personable, and not extremely wealthy. I also think Mitt Romney would give Obama a good run, but the Mormon thing might keep him from winning. Sarah is definitely out.

Pawlenty has shot himself in the foot by some of his recent remarks;and I think his recent turn to the right on social issues will cost him bit with moderate Republicans, while not convincing the religious right that he is sincere about it. His strong point was running as a Arnie "Fiscal Conservative,Social Issue Moderate" and he might have thrown that away.
The big surprise is Huckabee seems to be getting cold feet about running;and his recent seires of Faux Pax have not helped him with those in the GOP who want somebody who can beat Obama. He just does not have the fire in the belly..

News on N. Gingrich. Looks like he faked everyone, including himself, out yesterday by not actually launching his campaign -- even though he said in the morning that's what he would be doing. Read all about it here: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0311/50520.html

By all natural rights, I ought to remove N. Gingrich's dot until he actually does launch his Exp Cmte, but I'll leave him alone for now.

Another Huckabee Foot in Mouth incident over Natalie Portman.
I honestly think that Huckabee does not really want the job or even the nomination, but feels he needs to run to keep up his creditbility as a GOP leader, so he is making statments that sabotage his own campaign. He is getting the "unelectable" label..fatal to any potential nominee...hung on him very fast.

I sure hope so. Of the current GOP candidates, he's the only one that really scares me. Most of the others would either get thoroughly thrashed (Palin, Newt, Frothy Mix) or probably not be a total disaster (Romney, well pretty much just Romney).

Huckabee is messing up my predictions. Looks like he has no chance now with his verbal diarrhea. If he can come back from this I'll be shocked.

Please... He's said nothing that disqualifies him among the GOP primary voters at large. I used to M. Huckabee was going to give it a pass, but seeing how he's ramping up the goofy, it looks more like he actually will run.

Bless my soul, I had no idea that Buddy Roemer, former guv of Louisiana, was in the hunt, but careful reading this CNN article, about a candidate forum in Iowa in front of "evangelicals," shows the he's in the thick of it. Not only that, but he's actually formed an exploratory committee, so it's official -- with a dot. http://www.buddyroemer.com

Other participants: N. Gingrich, R. Santorum, H. Cain, T. Pawlenty

In other news, D. Trump, whose campaign is about as realistic as his hairline, has sent a lackey to Iowa in one of his big ol' planes to make a faux media splash and size up the yokels for fleecing. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/07/donald-trump-iowa_n_832481.html

Did you read the recent column by George Will slamming (and hard too) both Huckabee and Gingrich for their respective birther-pandering? He also says that there are only 5 "plausible" candidates: Daniels, Barbour, Huntsman, Romney and Pawlenty. So without mentioning Palin, he dismisses her too as a serious candidate.

Yes, George Will is representing the W.F. Buckley wing of the party. He's pretty close with those names, except that Barbour is not a plausible candidate. He's the Phil Gramm of 2012.

Is this bloody thing ever going to start?

I need a political fix and I see I have to wait till May for the first debate?

They seem to be taking a "you first" approach to things this time around. In particular, a colossus bestrides this primary, and most the others want to see this creature's first move or bow-out, whichever. I won't say her name, but her initials are S. Palin.

I did not need an image of a nameless person with the initials Sarah Louise Palin straddling anything.

T. Pawlenty throws hat in ring today with the announcement (pending, via Facebook) of his exploratory committee. Congrats on getting your dot today, Guv.

I wonder if T-Paw might win by default. He's not going to set the world on fire, but he seems to be the one guy who has a reasonably credible resume, checks all the required boxes, and doesn't have a 'fatal flaw' like the others.

Has it really come to this? Newly minted bad penny Rand Paul, senator from Kentucky, has made himself a mentionable in the race for pres, but only if his pop doesn't run. http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/03/rand-paul-mulling-presidential-run.php?ref=fpb

More action from unexpected quarters. Fred Karger has officially filed his candidacy to run for pres in the GOP field. http://fredkarger.com/. Ever heard of him? Me neither. Let's just say that this isn't the cycle I expected a gay Republican candidate to burst onto the scene.

Maybe, but he is relatively new, and some of his pandering to the religious right recently might make him less disireable to the GOP moderates, and won't make him competivie with the established Religious Right favorites.

If there is somebody who is going to win by default,it's Romney.

I also think there is a wait and see attitude vis a vis The GOP House.IF the GOP House screws up like the GOP congress did in 1995/96,poisoning the well for whoever the GOP Pres candidate is, some of the contenders might decide that no way will 2012 be a Republican year, and wait until 2016.
