Ron Paul? What are your thoughts?

They pay a fair wage for what they get, they wouldn't have any employees if they did not. Cashiering ( a job a high school dropout who can't read can do) is not worth $30 an hour.

I'm not saying $30/hour. Where did I say $30/hour? I don't even make $30/hour. Where did you get $30/hour from?

It was just an example. Whatever you think cashiers are worth is irrelevant, supply and demand decides the answer.

No, supply and demand answers the question.

And I have no argument against supply and demand, I agree with what you're stating - read my previous post. However, making a statement telling me that I shouldn't have my own idea of what cashiers should make works both ways.

If you're explaining this to me and I just agreed with you then where is the argument?

I suppose there isn't one then.

Likewise, there are plenty of people I think should make more or less than they do but it is irrelevant.

You also have to look at from the perspective of other large corporations. Wal Mart is a large corporation and so is Ford Motor Company. Ford pays their employees a decent wage. Decent enough that they can afford to purchase a car only one year into their employment. Most Wal-Mart employees find it hard to buy diapers for their newborns.

Ford needs more specialized employees than Wal-Mart does. In a related story, doctors make more than a typical Ford employee and Wal-Mart employee put together.

You think??

A cashier at WalMart starts at $10/hour. 15 minute break every two hours, paid lunch, time and a half on holidays and overtime pay. 90 days you begin accruing sick and personal days. 6 months eligible for health and dental insurance. 10% discount at the store.

That sounds like pretty good compensation for a cashier.

Yes, if you're single and don't have mouths to feed.

You're probably not going to be able to raise a family on a single person's wages working as a cashier no matter where you work. That's a separate issue from whether or not WalMart pays fairly. That said, those mouths will get more food from WalMart cashiers than they will from other cashiers. Especially since those cashiers can then shop at WalMart, where food is cheaper on average anyway, and receive a further 10% discount.

Let's rephrase this

A cashier starts at 10/hr, gets legal benefits and a discount as well as benefits [assuming full time status] at 90 days and 6 mnths.

All assuming you arent' fired. Which happens somewhat regularly at Walmarts.

Are you claiming WalMart fires people more frequently than comparative positions at other stores?
