StopSylvia email: Wow, Don't know what to say

I first encountered Browne reading Hans Holzer's ghosthunting books. Generally, they were ripping yarns, sure to drive a chill up a receptive spine, but, even then, 40-some years ago, she seemed like she was not even trying, that she was pulling generic crap from her anus. She wasn't interesting then and now, given EVERYTHING, she's just...I grew up in Virginia so this is a truly nasty insult...TACKY.

And, ExM,you have stated here man times that she is (or was) very charming in person. Hard to believe, but I'll take your word for it.

Well, I don't know about charming, but I did say that she seemed like a good person. I knew her best 20+ years ago when she had no money and her only real claim to fame was an occasional appearance on Good Morning America.

As I've said before, she was generous to me. She was kind. Sylvia in her 50s was funny and irreverent and seemed to have a gift for understanding the human condition. She seemed absolutely passionate about her beliefs. She was skeptical of fads and trends and had a knack for debunking other people's woo in the funniest way.

One thing I've learned at this point is that darkness is not that simple. Dark and light can exist in the same person.

She seemed to care about me; she seemed passionate about her beliefs; she was obviously blatantly deceiving me, along with everyone else.

Just for the record, no one mistake what I said above for excusing Sylvia Browne.

What she does is disgusting, and I can easily go off on rants about it, and I say things much worse than billydkid or dropzone, and my blood pressure skyrockets and don't let me get started on the missing children readings, the trance tape contradictions or her lies about supporting churches to justify her ridiculous enormous fees. Don't tell me about someone who has read the Stop site and still believes. I have story after pathetic story and I tend to ramble on and on until someone shuts me up.

My point is just that evil isn't obvious, and it also isn't obvious to everyone at the same time. Someone might recognize Browne as a tacky, two-bit showperson, all the while married to someone who winds up in jail for extortion. Something similar has happened to a dear friend of mine recently. There were warning signs, right? But they seemed so nice and normal and they loved you. Only now do you look back and see there were lies and something was a little off all along.

Whatever else we say about her, she had enough something to land a weekly spot on the Montel show and keep the ratings high.

TrentWray has it right, too. People who have had spiritual experiences will flock to someone like Browne, who appears to not only have had the same experiences but to have clear access to the spirit world and to be able to provide guidance to others who hope to achieve the same things.

And I believe it's also very true that they will be resistant to skepticism just on principle. Skepticism will imply negativity, doubt and disbelief, not necessarily good things to a person who has been all about spirituality, positive thinking, belief in an all-loving God and an invisible supernatural world, and faith.

To be able to demonstrate what skepticism has to offer to someone on a "spiritual path" is the challenge to me, being able to show how important critical thinking skills are in ALL areas of life, even and especially the spiritual, which is rife with con artists and so many half-baked pseudoscientific ideas, and so many ways to delude oneself.

That "something" was a total lack of scruples and compassion.

emails such as the ones from this correspondent show me that even now, with only two measly new articles since my stroke more than two years ago, the site continues to serve its purpose: to educate those willing to consider what it has to say.

Today I received another email from this woman. she continues to make her way through the articles, getting madder and madder at Browne, whom she referred to in this last email as "a greedy, manipulative, lying scoundrel".

She says she has given up her dream of becoming a minister in Browne's church.

Isn't it great what a little shining a light into a dark corner can do?

After I thanked her for sending me some more of Browne' contradictions, the woman sent this:

I am glad I could help, even if it's only in a small way. The more I read every day (and I've been reading several

articles a day, whenever I get the chance), the more disgusted I am with Sylvia Browne and her people. I was never an

integrated member of Novus Spiritus, but I was a member of a study-group that never became fully established, and

RARELY ever met. I've never been fond of organized religion, and the more I looked into NS, the more it seemed like just

another organized religion. I guess you could say that something about it simply rubbed the the wrong way, and I never

went out of my way to become a true member, though I had hopes of maybe someday becoming one of Sylvia's ministers,

because I believed so strongly in their proclaimed mission.... I thought about selling Sylvia's books (I don't believe in burning

books, because I consider all books to be in one way or another, sacred), I cannot bring myself to sell them and make a

profit off something which I know is a lie. It would feel dishonest for me to profit off her lies, even in a small way. Plus, I

think even her books have some value to them for me to learn from, even if it's just in helping you to expose Sylvia for the

despicable person that she is. I don't know how much of a help I could be, and I'm sure most things have already been

brought to your attention by others, but I sincerely hope that I can continue to help bring the truth about Sylvia out into the

open, so that more people are not hurt by her lies.... Keep doing what you are doing, because it really is helping others.

The information you have presented is irrefutable, and only those who wish to continue deceiving themselves can deny

what you have put forth on your website. I am just so glad I found it when I did, and only wish I had found it even sooner.

Sylvia Browne and her cronies need to be stopped, because what they are doing is just so wrong. She talks about not

judging others, but she is such a hypocrite, as many of your articles have so clearly shown. And she talks about evil

people and fake psychics, calling anyone who disagrees with her a "dark entity" and the like. Well, if anyone is a "dark

entity", it is her, because she is deceptive and selfish and hurtful, and she tries to cover her tracks along the way but she

so clearly has not....

Anyway, sorry...I began rambling without meaning to. I guess I'm going through the anger state now, and I am simply

furious that this woman is getting away with such terrible crimes against humanity. when I read the story about the

woman she told to go get an MRI because she might have a surgical instrument still inside her, I was just appalled! Sylvia

hasn't hurt me anywhere near as much as she has hurt and potentially hurt so many others, and it's truly despicable. I

hope that more people who follow her will stop doubting their own intuition and that they will see her for what she really

is--a greedy, manipulative, lying scoundrel. Name calling isn't right, but what else can I call her? She takes advantage of

people in the worst way, for her own benefit. It's really sorrowful--there are just no words to convey the depth of her

depravity and the level of pain she has caused so many people in all her years of claiming to care and help them....

Take care, and peace,
[name]

P.S. If you should find any reason to use any of my emails, forget what I said in my last one about withholding my name. I

don't care if you use my real name, because I have nothing to fear from Sylvia. Hope you have a good day.

I think she's over her belief in Browne, don't you?

I think she's over her belief in Browne, don't you?

Your quote had too many paragraph marks, so I have deleted the excess. Not deleted or changed anything else.

True. :(

Notice, too, how this correspondent thought Sylvia was a "good person," and how she wanted to be a minister because she believed "so strongly in their mission." She also mentioned how she was drawn to the spiritual information.

With that lack of scruples and compassion, Browne is convincing enough and talks a good enough story, complete with a comforting spiritual philosophy said to be straight from the other side, that fans are even willing to overlook inconsistencies. They are willing to excuse a few "human failings," especially since she often reminds them that only God is perfect.

To my mind, that is what kept Browne in her every-Wednesday slot for so long. It's what keeps her going even now.

It's only after finding your web site that they can see those human failings for what they are. She's deceptive but as this woman pointed out, she doesn't even bother to cover her tracks.

So, RSL, kudos!

How come everyone who emails you has the same name - [name]?

I'm going to change my name to [name].

I think there plenty of us here who can identify with the author of that email. The road to free ourselves from the bonds of belief in unbelievable things is paved with sorrow and not a little pain, but, as time ticks by and we grow accustomed to our new eyes, the feeling of liberation makes all the tribulations worth the effort.

Good on you, Robert!

Back atcha, Mooch! I just emailed a copy of your first paragraph above to the correspondent, hoping she would take some comfort from it. Thanks!

Very nice email.

One of your best yet RSL.

Your site is a powerful tool and updates aren't important. The hardwork has been done and it remains effective.

Just imagine how many people this lady will tell about her epiphany; and how many people will they tell.

*happy thoughts*

Good job mate!
