Continuation Part 2 - Discussion of the Amanda Knox case

sorry not having post before now, I have been looking at the past posts and have not finnish reading.
There a lot of posts to read on this case.
But one thing for sure is the hard drives of Amanda and Rafaele laptops, can be brought back to life again.
The only way you can burn a hard drive is by putting it in a furnace and melt it.
So there still hope yet with the laptops.

That's good information, zeb. Thanks and welcome.

Do you mean the shoulder strap or the back strap?

It was discussed not long ago. There was consensus that both of the shoulder straps are ripped, not cut - because both of them are whole, not cut in two pieces, and both of them failed at the seam. There was no consensus as to the clasp. To me it looks more like a failed seam, too.

The ring that connects with the strap is intact with none of the strap still that was cut or ripped off showing. If it was cut then it would have had to been cut at the seam, otherwise a piece would still be remaining on the ring. Theories?

Yes there is hope BUT the computers are in a police property room somewhere and all efforts to date by the defense to have them resurrected - with all expenses of such an effort to be born by the defense- has been unavailing. As time passes hope for this being done dims.

You're going to believe what they tell you to believe??????

I doubt that you would complain if “they” overturned the verdict, then your opinion of “them” would change. I prefer to be naively open minded to either possibility.

State of California vs. Orentahal James Simpson, 1995.

Just outside of America is a place called the rest of the world and in the context of Meredith’s murder Italian jurisprudence applies so do you have any examples of Italian jurisprudence preferable capital cases in involving murder. Comparing a case in California with Italian jurisprudence is a bit like comparing apples to oranges.

Guede's murder conviction was upheld. :D

I thought his saying "the only thing we are certain of is that Meredith was murdered" (or words to that effect) was the judge's way of hinting that reasonable doubt exists as to the guilt of AK and RS.
Babycondor

Yes Guede’s conviction and sentence was upheld in both of his appeals. However, his original trial stated that he and others were responsible for Meredith’s murder, this conclusion as far as I am aware did not change in his second appeal it remains to be seen what the motivational report states in his final appeal.

That is one interpretation, another could be that this is an appeal and as the judge he is stating the appeal court has an open mind either way, some might say this is a naive position.

Hello and welcome Zeb

Information on hard disks is stored by magnetising platters with 0’s or 1’s (binary) with read/write heads floating above each disk platter that spins at high speed somewhere between 4, 000 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) and up to 15, 000 rpm in high performance disk, therefore, the integrity of the drive platters can be effected if a disk is subjected to a magnetic field for example, the stronger the field the more damage. The level of recovery possible is dependent on the degree of damage and the recovery process being used, but magnets do erase data. I do not know whether this is the case but it is not strictly accurate to state that the only way to destroy a disk is by fire. By the way you can google "degaussing hard disk" for a more complete explanation.

I am reviewing all the photo evidence I can find and I have a few questions I was hoping to get some help with. In the bra photos it appears to me that not only the clasp was either cut or ripped apart but also the strap. Has this been discussed previously?http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/imagehosting/thum_383964d6100b62f1fe.jpg

The edging that is missing on the back strap appears to be made of the same material as the shoulder strap. Is that missing material continuous with one of the shoulder straps and still attached or is there yet another missing piece?

It appears one of the shoulder straps is intact, the other not (where it connects to the ring). From the previous picture it does appear to be ripped but the metal ring does not appear to be bent?

The other question I have is why did they remove the bra at the scene and lay it on the floor to take a photo? They already took a picture of the bra when it was on Meredith, correct? Should it have either gone with the body or been removed and placed in an evidence bag? I just don't see them taking it off and putting it on the dirty floor (or just don't understand why). That seems like it would just be asking for possible contamination to me.

It is not attached to the ring. If you note the picture of the ripped strap it appears a white area where it had been folded around the ring so I don't believe it is missing a piece.

I am also not getting why the shoulder strap is ripped apart to begin with. Maybe that happened as she was trying to get away from him? Any other theories on this?

Rose,

The cops didn't remove Meredith's bra. The cops found it on the floor, as photographed.

I don't think you are getting the full picture yet. The shoulder strap is in 2 pieces. There is a fixed part that attaches to the bra and is sown onto the ring. Then there is the adjustable part that attaches to the bra, slides through the ring and folds back to an adjustment slide. In the photos you've shown, one of the rings is complete with both straps. The other ring has only the adjustable strap still attached and the fixed strap is shown separately where the stitches failed and it came off the ring.

On the first strap that is complete, one end is still attached to the bra above the cup. The other end is what I am interested in seeing. I believe this same piece of material forms the missing edging on the back band adjacent to where the clasp is missing.

Yes, I believe you are right and I am wrong. The T-shirt was pushed up but not the bra which was off. I think I am confused by the speculation on the blood splatter when the bra was supposedly still on. The other shoulder strap was broken in a different area, the front of the bra and not the back where it connected to the ring shown in the previous photo.

I guess this means the purpose of breaking both the straps and the clasp then would likely be to remove the bra without removing the T-shirt. Does that make sense to you?

You guys have to excuse me this morning, I am reviewing so many photo's. Is this the part you are referring to?

There is no evidence that the cops removed any of Meredith's clothing. However, curiously, there are several photos and video segments that show the bra in different positions there on the floor.
