Making excuses for their incompetence doesn't help your case much though. It's like hiring back the bozos who killed our economy through their incompetence and ignorance because they have the most experience. If your saucer gods haven't done any better over the last couple of millennia, why bother to summon them now?

They are probalby too smart to be swayed by cheap theatrics they will show then selves when THEY think we are ready.

Speed the development of one world government to limit treaty partners or potentail for chaos upon revealation.

And how WOULD we go about showing that we have abandon religion and embraced science, if not to unit under the sky, in a secular global manner and invite the gods to come out from behind the mist AT THE OLYMPICS???

I think I WILL add the fossil fuel thing, though...

In Northern Brazil there's the "boto" (river dolphin) myth. Certain nights, when there's a party on villages by the rivers, a dolphin shape-shifts to a handsome stranger and seduces young women. Yes, the women quite often get pregnant.
-"Foi boto, sinha"
-"It was the dolphin, ma'am"
Cool excuse, eh? It was not any handsome stranger or cute neighbour. It was a supernatural creature! Saves girl's face, her familie's reputation and the baby's as well.
Now, what's more likely?
A) Shape-shifting dolphin are actually seducing and impregnating young women
Or
B) Its just a myth built to save people's faces and reputations?

Now, and what about similar myths elsewhere? Zeus seducing young maidens, for example. What's more likely?
A) A god (or ET or an ancient unknown high-tech species) seduced and impregnated the maiden
Or
B) It was a tall tale buit to save (and eventually enhance) the maiden's and the baby's reputation?

And then we have that Jesus guy...
Young woman, married to eldery guy gets pregnant. She claims an "angel" came out of the sky and the "holy spirit" impregnated her...
No, it was not some handsome stranger which happened to be around, neither some nice good-looking neighbour or some rapist.
It was god (or ET or some individual from some unknown high-tech species). The girl is pure and inocent, her eldery husband has not been betrayed and the kid became a demi-god.
Yeah. And some people buy this crap even nowadays.

Just to be clear... if you want to include these "demonstrations" where do you stop? Look at Heracles. Look at all the magical things he interacted with. Are you suggesting they are all real? I mean, you wouldn't want to cherry-pick. Now let's start adding in the ones from other people, other religions... hmm... some of them don't work well together but even ignoring that the world has become a very busy place! There are demons and monsters and gods and witches and wizards and elves and trolls everywhere you look!

Funny that they've left nothing at all behind.

No such skills have been demonstrated!

On the other hand, its been demonstrated that handsome strangers and neighbours do seduce beautifull maidens.
And it is safe to say it was demonstrated that Earth can not be supported by someone's shoulders, hydras are not real, people can't walk over water, etc.
