Sarah Palin is making news on the final day of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and she didn't even attend. CNN announced late Feb. 11 that Palin hired former Bob Dole aide Michael Glassner as her chief of staff.

The move is seen as moving forward with Palin's plans to seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012 by Politico and Slate. Glassner also served on Sen. John McCain's staff during his campaign for president in 2008.

The announcement came on the day before Palin could have been a keynote speaker at the CPAC in Washington in front of thousands of her adoring fans. ABC News reports those attending the conference don't really miss her presence and understand if she has other obligations.

Texan Nick Burt told ABC of Palin's absence, "Sarah is probably on TV. I don't know, but I really don't care. She's just a media personality to me."

As a right-leaning independent who votes Republican, let me just state here and now that Palin, though I like her for the most part, doesn't have my vote.

There are more intelligent and qualified Republicans who will do a much better job.

if palin is the best the repubs have to offer, the world is in trouble.

Dude, you're a Communist...don't you want America to crumble in defeat?

If she just hires some McCain staffers now, she can put together a made-to-lose campaign like those were.

That's silly. How would the world be in trouble if the Republicans can't come up with a better candidate and get thoroughly defeated in 2012?

Well, trillions... maybe over a trillion, but I haven't seen any source that it is 2 trillion or more.

And your "killed hundreds of thousands of people" is also very misleading. If you want to make these two claims, you better back them up with data.

When an Al-Qaeda operative or Islamic Extremist walks into a crowded Iraqi market and kills hundreds of people, Lefty's blame America for it.

With that kind of skewed logic, you can easily put the death toll blamed on America at millions or even billions worldwide

The logic goes something like this, "If the U.S. hadn't invaded Iraq, that never would've happend...so it's the U.S. fault!"

But then, if Iraq had abided by UN Resolutions, the U.S. wouldn't have invaded...so isn't it Iraq's fault?

"No! History started on Jan. 20, 2001 when Bush took office!"

*facepalm*

What, are you on an Al-Qaeda non-sequiter kick today or something?

The GOP race is shaping up to be a real 3-ring circus this year.

At least CPAC had enough sense to let GOProud in and let Heritage and their ilk take a hike.

But then we get Trump and Bachmann?

What's left, Huckabee? Pawlenty?

Sad situation.

If the party could float a middle-of-the-road candidate, it wouldn't be that monumental a task to get Obama out of office. But they're not going to do that, I'm afraid, because everybody's beholden to the teabag faction.

Well, still a lot of time til the convention.

Personally, I think a centrist candidate would upset the applecart, bring a lot of independents back, swing quite a few disillusioned Dems, but the machinery's going to resist that.

ETA: Right now if I were to vote a GOP ticket, I'd take Romney. How sad is that?

Palin is saddling up. And now the fear and loathing begins in earnest. A massive teabagger conspiracy has formed for the purpose of driving the Democrats from power and installing the she-bear as empress.

Fortunately, I already have plans worked out to disappear into the wilderness, from which I will emerge periodically to re-supply, get a haircut, take a hot shower, have a steak dinner, and take in a movie before once again retreating into my hidden lair, where I and my pack of loyal wolf-dogs will stand guard over our 4 year supply of canned goods. In the evenings I will sit near my campfire and send the wolf dogs into delerious cacaphonies of off-key howling with my guitar prowess. I figure by the time civilization collapses, I won't be needing it any more.

The rest of you will just have to suffer. Except the ones who like the sorts of things Palin is threatening to do.

BTW, what is Palin threatening to do? My memory is not what it used to be. I recall something about drilling for oil, considering an Iranian nuke to be unacceptable, and reducing taxes while slashing the throats of numerous sacred cows. While the specter of an oil-soaked, Iran-bombing, department-of-educationless, tax-starved AmeriKa is certainly enough to make my blood run cold, I have a nagging feeling that I've forgotten some of the truly horrific aspects of Palinism. Maybe I blocked it all out when the Democrats took over Washington - which in itself was an event of nightmarish proportions.

There is no way the Republicans would nominate her. If she runs it will be on some obscure party's ticket.

I'm not 100% sure he's running yet, but I think that the guy you are looking for is Mitch Daniels. He appears to be a fiscal conservative without the woo. (At least AFAIK)

This report in Politico, focusing on a new poll in New Hampshire, claims that Palin's support in early primary states is falling.

If she does run, and I think she will not, it will burst her aura and permanently damage her brand among the paying customers.

Palin will run, I'm sure there are people every day telling her she should run and I doubt she could resist that.

I doubt she will win the nomination though. Her negatives are pretty high. Her continuing inability to simultaneously speak extemporaneously and intelligently will be an ongoing embarrassment which the other potential nominees will use to carve her up.
