Arizona counter sues Feds over immigration.

The Arizona government sold guns to nobody. Guns shops in Arizona have sold guns to individuals who were legally allowed to buy them and them illegally sold them to bad guys.

Georgia, however, legally sells guns to "bad guys". It's what we do.

Simply moving the cost of health care for the illegals to the feds would be a giant boost to Arizona's economy. Add education to that (or at least stop the feds from suing Arizona for the heinous crime of not being able to pay for enough ESL teachers*) and were looking at a bright new day. Everyone loves to talk crap about it, because its not their problem. Lets shift the burden to all the enablers and we shall see how they feel about it then.

*ESL of course only means spanish, as the parents of chinese, philipino and sudanese students have learned the painfully hard way

I'm just echoing my opinion. Ultimately, yeah, it's up to SCOTUS

Indeed. Will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

And btw, I didn't mean to try to zing you, there. I'm just saying that it's not all political grandstanding.

Some of the recent actions are, to be sure, but the core impetus that started it all was an attempt to move a sizeable portion of the illegal aliens from the state system to the federal system (where, imo, they belong).

It's true that the federal system can't handle them if they were all to be transferred, but that's no excuse for Washington to simply leave them to the states by a policy of not-so-benign neglect.

In some states/districts, yes. But that's a matter of resources. However in D.C., for example, the patchwork of languages is much more complex, which means the challenges are exponentially more difficult.

@Pipelineaudio: You sure you're not uh... biased? Heavily?

I am extremely biased. The mass media of the united states has thrown me and all of my mexican bretheren in with criminals. They have created the impression that there are whites on one side and mexicans on the other. They have created the impression that ALL mexicans are criminals. They have created the impression that ALL immigrants are criminals.

The media uses the same word "immigration" to describe both criminals and law abiding, important members of the community. I notice that they don't do the same thing with "sex" and "rape" though it is exactly the same situation.

We have a big problem with illegals. If you had the same problem, I think your attitude would change. I think if you were accused of racism or some other nonsense just because you think that all people, regardless of race or origin should be subject to the same laws, you would be a bit pissed too.

We tried adding chinese. The suits that came in hot and heavy from La Raza nuts shut that down

Yeah, that really ticks me off. They label anti-illegal-immigration groups as "anti-immigration" groups.

Immigration is not the same as illegal immigration.

To be sure, there are indeed anti-immigration groups, and we need to make the distinction.

Really? Law suits? I haven't heard about that. Got any links to the reports? That's just bizarre.

Trying to find references. Maybe it was just the threat of suits. It was a big deal for a bit. Ever since Flores -v- Arizona education officials have been extremely paranoid

Well, as a resident of Virginia I'd just like to say thank you, Arizona, for making my state look sophisticated by comparison.

Seems to me that an order from a President is all it would take to control our borders. The laws are already there, he would only need to order his branches to enforce them.

Do you have proof that the Feds are not enforcing the laws to the fullest extent possible? I keep reading where poeple are complaining that the Feds are not enforcing laws, but no one ever shows actual proof that this is so.

But the GOP wants cheap labor, and the Dems expect new voters.

How many people ctoss the border to vote?

But in lieu of the feds enforcing immigration laws, can't the Arizona law enforcement people merely escort illegals to the Arizona southern border? Don't the local officers take an oath to enforce federal laws?

"Escorting" people to the border does not seem like a simple, easy, or entirely legal method of dealing with the issue.

The State of Arizona wants the feds to prevent people from illegally coming into the state. And since the feds are demonstrably unable to do that, they want to be legally able to (try to) do it themselves. What horrible, evil, racists bastards.

They want to "try to" do it themselves, but they want the federal government to pay for it.

The fact is, it could very well be that Arizona will indeed get SCOTUS to agree that the feds have to accept a deluge of new cases offloaded to them from the states.

How so? The feds can not enforce state laws and the state can not enforce federal laws.

I am still waiting for some definitive evidence that the feds are deliberately or negligently not enforcing federal immigration laws.

I've often wondered why exactly they don't build their own fence or wall. Surely that's in the power of a state, to undertake a construction project? The only reason I can think of that they don't is that they wish the evil federal government to do it (and pay for it) for them.

I think we should sue the federal government for failing to protect us from the invasion of zebra mussels. And don't even get me started on Kudzu!

No. A state cannot set foreign policy. A state building a wall along an international border would certainly affect foreign policy. (For that matter, the CC clause gives the federal government authority wrt interstate borders too.)
