Helen Puttick said:
FRESH doubt has been cast over the future of Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital, as managers stop sending patients to the wards.

Members of the British Medical Association have already said the NHS should stop funding such hospitals, arguing there is no evidence they work.

Now, Robert Calderwood said one health board has decided to cease referring patients. If others followed, he said, he would have to look at how much the hospital is costing the health board.

With cuts of about £50 million in the next financial year, and the BMA calling for funding to be withdrawn, Mr Calderwood said of closing the hospital: “You could be forgiven for thinking it is a no-brainer.”

This kind of indulgence is only possible in boom times, and these ain't it. I expect to see a lot of woo go under the bus in the near future, including the religious faddery that has so entranced the world for the last couple of decades. When times get hard people get pragmatic.

Egyptian Revolt : Jobs and Food 1, Religion 0. A terrible disappointment for the Muslim Brotherhood, but waddya gonna do?

Wonderful thoughts, CD. Good news, Rolfe.

Surely a homeopathic hospital with less money would be better off?

Somehow I have a feeling that homeopaths don't think those dilution factors should also be used for their salaries. :D

Didn't Mitchell and Webb do a documentary on the atrocious success rate of their A&E ward?

I expect it will go the other way. It's cheaper to sell water than medicine, prayer is free, and palm readers are cheaper than career counselors.

Sadly, I think BK is right.

“…a no-brainer.”

A no-brainer? So just like a 30C diluted homeopathic brain, must be from ingesting all that water at the hospital. I’d hate to see their Evian bill!!!!

It only works if you put the money in water, knock it around a bit and repeat. Give most of the resulting homeopathic money to the hospital and just keep the original to repeat the process (to continue production). Well it would work for you at least. They might even name it the Sledge Homeopathic Wing due to your 30C generous donation (but your name would be emblazoned in homeopathic paint).

How did it get to the point that there even is such a thing as a "homeopathic hospital"? Let alone did they get government funds?

Seeing as you asked, and this should be posted in any homeopathy thread:

Of course, the hospital COULD cease using homeopathic treatments and get with the 19th 20th 21st century.

I'm sure they can function on the memory of the spiritual imprints of the money.

(I'm trying to picture how a whole hospital could work, and I get really funny scenarios)

Good news indeed. "managers stop sending patients to the wards" - homeopathic hospitals have wards? That surprised me, surely people in beds in wards actually have something wrong with them, I hope the homs used enough conventional meds to prevent themselves being found out. How does that work - take your appendix out, give you anaesthetics, sedatives, muscle relaxants, morphine, antibiotics and then a little arnica post-op and presto - isn't homeopathy great!

Yuri

ps, anyone know how the appointment of the Tayside homeopathic doctor is going?
