Corrupt Dem Sentenced

no.

good try.

but...no.

You know one problem with the internet is that it doesn't transmit the tone of the spoken word. You see without tone the above could be read as a denial based on nothing which would either suggest bad faith or an attempt to blot out reality. But if read in what I'm sure is the correct sobbing tone it's an acceptance of error if a rather emotional one. Still understandable given the magnitude of the mistake.

You said:

"I was with you right up until you started listing other corrupt Democrats in what could only be some bizarre attempt to pretend that corruption only occurs on one side of the aisle."

Deflection and tu quoque

As tyr_13 already pointed out, you seem to be a little fuzzy on what a tu quoque argument is.

And as far as deflection, what's there to deflect? Some politicians - Democrat and Republican alike - are corrupt. I have no interest in pretending otherwise.

So the proof is the OP list? Seriously you are that unimaginative?

Just off the top of my head:

Nixon
G Gordon Liddy
John Dean
Tom DeLay
Bob Ney
Jack Abramoff
Ted Stevens
Scooter Libby
Duke Cunningham
Bill Frist
Reagan (but Oliver North fell on his sword for his dear leader in the Iran Contra affair)

From the Net (there is some overlap in the lists):
The Record of Republican Corruption : [ What kind of "Christian" imagines that Jesus Christ would want any part of this party? ] Republican "Paragons of Virtue"at the State or Local Levels :

CORRUPTION IN GOVERNMENT: A Comprehensive List

I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find more and I can't recall all the Nixon related names at the moment so we could look that admin up and add a few more names.

There's enough corruption in this country for dem, rep, independent, green party, etc. with plenty left over.

nah...it's just more prevalent with the Left.

Evidence?

Don't know, but theory would predict it. How so? There's a theory that politicians pass laws to get in the way of business for the purpose of kickbacks, legal or otherwise, to get them out of the way. Or kickbacks to place blocks in the way of competition of certain businesses.

Both of those are memetically justified above-board by leftist concepts: We need to (massively) regulate to prevent harm, for the former, and "this town ain't big enuf for two drug stores" for the latter.

Isn't there also a theory that says that politicians pass laws to get out of the way of business for the purpose of kickbacks, legal or otherwise?

With regards to the OP corrupt dem getting sentenced: good. Needs to happen more often (corrupt pols getting sentenced).

With regards to the follow-up claim that Dems are the only corrupt politicians:

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Who said Dems are the ONLY corrupt politicians?

Who said Dems are the ONLY corrupt politicians?

That's fair, but since he only listed other Democrats (implying causation, in my opinion), I assumed. But you're right. Thank you for pointing out that I was making an assumption that may not be correct.

Missing the relevancy since all of the examples I gave were of Massachusetts politicians, but thanks for the update on Florida shenanigans.

With that said, Superfly was sentenced today: http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2011/01/turner_convicte.html

THREE YEARS for taking a $1,000 bribe. Some in Boston are bringing up the race issue, and not without good reason. White Irish boys Finneran and Flaherty got off a lot easier. It will be interesting to see what happens with the 3rd (and most recent) consecutive House Speaker indicted Sal Dimaisi.

He's facing a lot more time than Turner was.

I honestly feel bad for Turner, even though I hate him for his dimwitted smear of US soldiers a few years ago.

Meh. DeLay.

Meh. Delay isn't a Massachusetts politician unlike the others I mentioned.

Had you read more closely and seen this: Corruption is bad no matter who does it. It just so happens that I live in a state where the last 3 Speakers were all Dems and were all indicted/found guilty and where the two biggest FBI corruption stings in the state were both against Dem legislators.

IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING YOUR CUT AND PASTE JOB

then maybe you could have saved yourself that typing and done something constructive like make an origami kitten.

Yeah, or like, read the thread title! Lol! Where the "Massachusetts" connection was completely made clear right in the title, while the "Dem" connection wasn't referred to at all....

Oh, wait a minute....

From the same post you cited - "Corruption is bad no matter who does it."

Yeah or like read the thread title and bring up the off topic mention of Tom Delay. I saw your post about that deflection...

Oh, wait a minute...

MY deflection? Bwa ha ha ha!!!! You didn't mention Massachusetts anywhere in your thread title OR your OP, and yet you have the audacity not only to claim your OP is about Massachusetts politicians, NOT the Dems you specifically mentioned that WERE in your thread title AND your OP, but hypocritically accuse ME of "deflecting" when I called you on it!

You are just DARLING!
