Well, that's good. I think this means that you have realized that interstellar travel is so incredibly energy intensive and so time consuming that it's not likely that we have, or will, recieve interstellar visitors, regardless of how many civilizations there are out there. You need to take back the "assume all the anecdotes are true" part, though, as most concern aliens.

Why does every raver sooner or later drag Galileo and/or Columbus into his/her argument? It's not the same at all. Galileo and Columbus had verifiable, repeatable evidence for their claims.

Anyway, just because someone whose ideas met opposition turned out to be right, it doesn't mean that opposition to your ideas proves you are right.

(and it's public recanting, not recounting.)

You've missed my point. While I don't believe in aliens, I do conclude that there is something intelligent in our heavens, that isn't us.

The historical record is littered with tales and pictures of E.T's or heavenly agents.

They have always been 'up there', and I hold that they may have even evolved here, long ago, and simply ascended to the heavens.

I think you are wrong, and that there is a significantly simpler explanation for the tales and pictures that litter the historical record.

I do not dispute that we are better off knowing the truth, though I suspect that if we did you'd be out of a thread. That differs substantially from staging a public experiment of unknown consequences in the midst of thousands of vulnerable and unarmed persons who have paid to see an athletic event. Of course it's obvious by now that I believe the entire premise of the experiment is utterly nonsensical and thus without risk of anything but utter waste and embarrassment, but if we are playing by the thread rules, and if the [yeah,thosenotquitealiensagain] did turn out to be real, then it's an irresponsible way of obtaining the truth, not much better than using the Olympic audience to test nerve gas formulas.

Galileo put himself at risk for his principles, not his neighbors.

Maybe, but you should also include anecdotes like mine.

Either all the anecdotes, tales, pictures, and videos represent a reality, or they are ALL fictious accounts, hoaxes, or what-have-you.

I think the simpliest answer is that 'they' exist, and have always existed, they've just been misidentified as God or Angels...

If they exist and we are in danger from them, bringing them to the public's attention would be a good thing.

Would you rather have an enemy you knew about, or one you didn't?

It's pretty much a given that we don't have anything to fear from imaginary beings, which is what we've been discussing in this thread. Occasionally someone who hears voices in their head or believes their invisible friend is real will snap and cause some harm to humanity. But that isn't the fault of the aliens/gods/intraterrestrials/UFOliens/voices. It's the mental illness that does it.

How about letting sleeping dogs lie. Provoking dangerous aliens just to create public awareness would be a bad thing.

My beliefs about them are based on their actual behavior toward humanity, recently.

I created a petition, and posted a link within this thread. I myself haven't even signed it yet, as I think you have to be a facebook member. I will likely set up a more user-friendly petition, and then begin an earnest endeavor to collect signatures.

I am just guessing you won't be part of the undersigned?
