Merged Rep. Giffords Shot In Tucson

I would bet money that that was sarcasm, not an actual endorsement of the shooting.

And what good would the money do if you're wrong?

Hate to break this to anyone, but there really are both Left- and Right-Wing Nuts out there who do indeed think and feel this way. Is that particular person serious? I've no way to know. But I know there are some who are, if not that specific person.

THAT was my entire point about Palin's complicity, about her targeted map image. I knew someone, somewhere, was thinking "One down, more to go."

The over-blown us-vs-them rhetoric needs to stop. It's bad enough coming from citizens. It does NOT need to come from our elected officials. It gives it the cachet of authority, makes it seem more acceptable to think and speak this way, to act out in dangerous, deadly ways.

I say, no more. Don't make targets out of people. Someone will take it seriously. That this particular shooter may or may not have been one of them doesn't lessen the impact of it. It highlights it.

Enough.

Here's an interesting run-down of violent events since the Supreme Court affirmed that the Second Amendment grants citizens the right to take violent action against the government should it become "tyrannical" (District of Columbia v. Heller, 2008):

Some examples, but I would recommend reading the whole thing:....
This is an excellent post.

But there is more. This is from May, 2010: FBI details surge in death threats against lawmakers
Senate Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer says threats against members of Congress were up 300 percent in the first few months of 2010.....Though each threat case is different, the FBI documents reveal some common characteristics. The suspects are mostly men who own guns, and several had been treated for mental illness. Most of the suspects had just undergone some kind of major life stress, such as illness or the loss of a job.
(emphasis mine)

From Loughner's MySpace posts:
December 15, 2010:
The majority of citizens in the United States of America have never read the United States of America's Constitution.
You don't have to accept the federalist laws.
Nonetheless, read the United States of America's Constitution to apprehend all of the current treasonous laws.
You're literate, listener?

In conclusion, reading the second United States constitution I can't trust the current government because of the ratifications: the government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar.
No! I won't pay debt with a currency that's not backed by gold and silver!
No! I wont trust in God!

The majority of people, who reside in District-8 are illiterate - hilarious. I don't control your English grammar structure, but you control your English grammar structure.
The 8th District is Giffords' Congressional District. Loughner's address was Tucson which is on the border of District 7 & 8.

It is common that there are themes in this specific type of mental illness delusion. This shows that the political rhetoric was intertwined in Loughner's delusions. He wasn't rambling that Jesus told him to shoot, a common theme in some Schizophrenics who are homicidal.

The point is when the political rhetoric using gun and killing metaphors goes up, so do the threats. Yes, they are the mentally unstable. That is the point of saying word choices have consequences when it comes to these kinds of 'words'.

Everyone has that same friend upstairs. I heard about it on the radio and immediately prayed for those people. I'm sure millions across the world whom believe in God did the same.

And yet, this same "friend upstairs" had no power to stop this before it happened.

What about those who have died? Those adults, that little girl? Is the "friend upstairs" so incompetent that he couldn't have spared their lives? Could the shooter not have been made, by this same mysterious hand, to MISS when he fired, so he could have been seen for the dangerously ill man he is, and removed from our midst to get help, if possible?

Did people really have to die, just to make Sky-Daddy look good?

That idea sickens me. Why does it not sicken you?

And the "friend upstairs" obviously didn't give a **** about the other victims.

I'm sure he did in the end. He's not confined to the boundries of the material world.

Just like I'm not confined to the boundries of correct grammar sometimes when posting.

It's all perception.

Just because a problem isn't the largest problem, that doesn't mean it's harmless. The left is better for leaving "domestic terrorism" out of its repertoire.

Remind me again what domestic terrorism the Black Panthers engaged in.

You can start another thread if you want, I know the entire situation was more complicated and nuanced than I implied in my brief statement.

After my last post post I received another texted from my friend and it contained the name of another victim. This victim was an acquaintance of mine. While I did not know him well I knew him and it was too much for me to continue providing info.
That's hitting way too close to home. Please accept my condolences, even if he was "only" an acquaintance.

Also, please accept my thanks for giving us an inside track on developments. Reading them even after the fact was interesting.

Meanwhile, I recommend to everyone this commentary by Mark Mardell of the BBC. (The vocabulary word of the day is "febrile", by the way.)

If you don't read the whole thing, here is his conclusion:
The rhetoric and debate that instantly sprang up around this crime show the volatile, febrile nature of American politics and those passions are unlikely to disappear overnight.

I think he's nailed it. The larger concern from my perspective is that we are a nation on tenterhooks. How do we get out of this situation?

In my library, I have The Koran, The Rise & Fall of the Third Reich, Blade Runner, The Lord of the Rings, The Joy of Sex, The Bhagavad Ghita, Tao Te Ching, Profiles in Courage, and The Gas We Pass.

what does that tell you about me? ;)

That like so many people, you have been educated far beyond your capacity to undertake analytical thought

You really should watch it. You wouldn't be here wondering why I think he's schizophrenic if you did.

Wild Cat is right. Dude is totally fruit loops. People's criminal records are public and I think its about time people's medical records become public.

Way too many crazies out there that are dangerous to other people. As a victim of violent crimes myself at the hand of a crazy person I can tell you that when you meet them face to face some are "good actors" at hiding their craziness.

When I was 17 a group of three 20yr olds tried to cut my head off with a shovel. Luckily they failed. All three had previous records of violent crime and had severe mental issues.

What do you think about this "person of interest" the cops are looking for? I don't know that much about his particular psychological malady, but it would seem odd that he had a partner in his paranoid delusion.

Could the old guy have put him up to it? Taken advantage of him? I'm confused about what role this 50 year old guy could play.

no, not odd. tragic.

one of the passengers who died on flight 587 in NY escaped the WTC two months earlier.

It is tragic, you're right. She had just been elected to her student council. Heard her dad on the radio.

I'd like to know what kind of sick **************** points a gun at a 10 year old girl and shoots her.

:(

thank you and you are welcome. I was getting text almost every minute and I felt a responsibility to provide some of the information. I also felt a responsibility to censor some of it like the judges name.

There's a big difference between having something in your bookshelf, and naming it among your favourite books. I have the Bible and Marquis de Sade in my bookshelf, but I would not name them among my favourites.
.
"The Essential Ellison", and "The Structure of Evolutionary Theory".. neither among the favorites.. bogged down in "TSoET".
I read lots of Scott Adams. :)
