Merged Rep. Giffords Shot In Tucson

Fox News is reporting that he may not have acted alone:

Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, from the Pima County Sheriff's Department, said at a press conference that he is "not convinced he acted alone," and that there is a second suspect believed to be a white male in his 50s. He went on to describe the shooter as 'unstable' with a troubled past.

Since I'm no kind of mental-health professional, I would be remiss to express my opinion in medical terms. Therefore, I believe that the shooter was bat-hat, street-rat, scalded-cat crazy!

:D

Two more individuals are now being reported as deceased. Dorothy Murray, age 76, and Phyllis Scheck, age 79.

That seems to complete the death toll of 6 (so far).

John Roll, Christina Green, Gabe Zimmerman, Dorwan Stoddard, Dorothy Murray, and Phyllis Scheck (not sure of the spelling).

:( :( :( :( :( :(

horrible day for the United States. :(

and yes....again..

the violent and revolutionary rhetoric needs to STOP!!!!

No, but I know crazy when I see it.

The guy was a raging schizophrenic.

schizophrenic.....and raging for that matter?

how could you possibly know?

due to what medical expertise do you have the right or qualifications to make such a diagnosis?

and Sarah Palin needs to be sued in civil court for political incitement.

OK, so the prediction that I made in my first post has now been solidly proven incorrect.

“Political incitement” as an actionable offense? A final, thunderous conclusion to the theme that has pervaded this whole thread, about how certain forms of political expression should be prohibited, of a sort that only one JREF user is thunderous enough to actually come out with, believe, and express.

1) the rhetoric call to violence does not exist as is being described?

Some quotes from Jared Loughner

"The majority of citizens in the united states of America have never read the united states of America's constitution. You don't have to accept the federalist laws," the video's titles say. "In conclusion, reading the second United States constitution, I can't trust the current government because of the ratifications: the government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar. No! I won't pay debt with a currency that's not backed by gold and silver! No! I won't trust in god!"

“I know who’s listening: Government Officials, and the People. Nearly all the people, who don’t know this accurate information of a new currency, aren’t aware of mind control and brainwash methods. If I have my civil rights, then this message wouldn’t have happen.”

These sound strangely familiar, huh?

Wildcat- are you now a licensed psychiatrist?
I have a license to diagnose. There is a very specific key in those ramblings called "disorganized thoughts". It's not an absolute diagnosis here, you'd need to see the guy in person, but one can say those posts are consistent with the thing you'd see in a paranoid schizophrenic.

Do you have a point?

See my post above.

Disorganized thought is a specific symptom.

... due to what medical expertise do you have the right or qualifications to make such a diagnosis?

In that case, he was certainly bananas, batty, bizarre, cracked, crackers, crazed, crazy, cuckoo, daft, demented, derailed, deranged, fatuous, frenzied, idiotic, impractical, irrational, irresponsible, loony, lunatic, mad, maniacal, mental, moonstruck, nuts, nutty, of unsound mind, off one's rocker, out of one's mind, paranoid, preposterous, psychopathic, psychotic, rabid, raging, raving, schizophrenic, screwy, senseless, touched, unhinged, unsettled, and wild!*

Again, there is no evidence to date that this has anything to do with political rhetoric, and no evidence that the suspect held any particular political view, so instead of playing the left vs. right game, how about just sparing a moment's thought for the victims of this horrific act without politicizing it?

The thing is that there is no evidence at this point that this had anything to do with politics, no indication that it had anything to do with left vs. right, no indication that it had anything to do with partisan politics or rhetoric, and no indication that it was anything but a disturbed individual shooting rather indiscriminately.

What I find fascinating is that despite this uncertainty, many of us (myself included) very quickly wondered what this attack means for the fractures in U.S. society. If something just like it had happened in the U.K. or Canada, would anyone even think to ask if it would destabilize the nation, or was a flashpoint in a cold civil war?

If there are any posters from Britain or Canada still reading, would such questions even come up at all?

And, by the way, the "suspect" is still just a suspect. He hasn't been officially accused of anything yet, let alone being convicted of anything.

Just saying.

I saw his youtube channel.

You need as much medical training to recognize bat guano crazy as you need meteorology training to know if it's raining outside.
