Presumably physicalists tend towards supervenient epiphenomena for thought just as idealists tend towards supervenient epiphenomena for energy/matter.
Thought at least seems to have a quality we could name 'intent', something the physical, as usually defined, lacks.
There are certainly many ways to pretend one has The Answer, or gloss over the fact one doesn't.
