$10K fine for not going through TSA screening?

I definitely agree that the TSA has gone too far. We can never be 100% safe, and no amount of safety is worth giving up the 4th amendment for.
....I wish most people would be angry about this because of 4th Amendment right violations, the inefficiency and stupidity of the new theatrical security procedures, and very likely abuse of the system by lobbyists and corrupt bureaucrats. But it looks like if our rights will be preserved, it will largely be due to the nations' prudishness.

Nope. First of all, let's take the case of a stripper. She makes money from her body routinely, including gropes for money.

Free porno-scans, free gropes. You've stolen from her.

No prudery.

Next, let's consider the guy whose needed to have a urine bag taped to his waist after an operation. TSA goon broke the bag, guy publicly doused in urine.

No prudery.

Then there's the lady who after breast cancer, had a mastectomy. TSA goon forced her to pull the false breast out for examination.

Again, no prudery.

I could go on, but you get the idea. But even if prudery was a main driver, which it isn't to me, I'd support the rights of the few to whom it was a concern.

However, the 4th amendment right should be the only issue discussed as to why this policy isn't acceptable. The 4th isn't based on what people find pleasant or unpleasant, that is totally irrelevant.

Of course, the naked scanner machines are staffed by professionals, right? I shouldn't worry about them being an perverse invasion of me, right?

Original Source? (anyone verify this one on any major news outlet?)

I assume the Daily Squib is a joke rag, given the headlines:

DAILY SQUIB NEWS
• How I Fell in Love With a TSA Screener

and:

TSA Checks for Prostate and Bowel Cancer

And......I snopes'd myself:

My bad. Enjoy the lulz.

So... the answer is 14. I have no idea how much it costs to maintain a backscatter machine vs. feeding and caring for a dog, nor the life expectancy of the machines.

Why, you can't even think of using dogs.

They are dirty creatures that sniff at peoples junk.:D

And they profile.....

Ceramic knives, for one.

I'm sure you can think of a dozen, if you try hard enough, and a hundred if your definition of "weapon" is liberal enough. "Making it harder for terrorists to bring down planes" is not the same as "Making it impossible for terrorists to bring down planes," and I think the point of diminishing returns was reached right after the metal detectors went up 30 years ago.

Why bother to worry about ceramic knives? They can get them on the flight or after they pass through security. There was an article on how someone brought on a sort of liquid epoxy/metal compound and made his own knife in the airplanes restroom.

And I agree, I think we hit the return with metal detectors and this doesn't add any further security.

SO....are you claiming that an exponentially declining ability to add additional security should not be met with an exponential increase in intrusiveness aggravation and funding levels??

;)

Er, I believe so...

Should we vent our collective explosive rage on the exploding cost of checking for exploding passengers so airliners are not explodable while ignoring explosive checked baggage and explosive air freight and only having our heads explode with the insanity?

But nobody takes shop class in high sckrewal any more so you need not worry.

Did you just employ a Limbaughism?
Were you high skewered or high screweraled?

SERIOUSLY NOW FOLKS.

Can we just have a "Security Theater - ScannerPorn with the Federal Grope-Rapists" sign in front of airport TSA screening?

Such a thing could be passed at the local level as a city ordinance.

I'm about 75% decided that the next time I fly, per some columnist's astute suggestion, I'm going to wear my kilt; in the style of a True Scotsman.

Make sure you put the kilt pin in your checked baggage.

"He said that once I start the screening in the secure area, I could not leave until it was completed. Having left the area, he stated, I would be subject to a civil suit and a $10,000 fine. I asked him if he was also going to fine the 6 TSA agents and the local police officer who escorted me from the secure area. After all, I did exactly what I was told. He said that they didn't know the rules, and that he would deal with them later. They would not be subject to civil penalties. I then pointed to Mr. Silva and asked if he would be subject to any penalties. He is the agents' supervisor, and he directed them to escort me out. The man informed me that Mr. Silva was new and he would not be subject to penalties, either."

After reading the article I somewhat sympathize with the man but he was pushing to see how far this would go. Now he knows.

Yet a $10,000 fine is outrageous!! Especially if you've never been convicted of a crime!!

Ah yes, only in America!!

We're crazy people, we!!

I only have anecdotes ...

Apparently women are more likely to be selected for x-rays or "enhanced" pat-downs if they wear dresses or skirts because there's more room to hide something dangerous ...

But men are less likely to be searched if they wear kilts out of fear that they may be wearing them regimental style.
