You can try to relate it all you want, it's irrelevant unless you can show how it's part of the curriculum. The curriculum defines the course material suitable for class lectures. I suppose you think lecturing on Astrology is appropriate too because "it's related". Unbelievable.
It only has to do with the curriculum. It's not part of the curriculum. If you don't understand what a curriculum is just say so. Making stuff up about how it's related is BS. Global Warming and the lecture this prof presented has absolutely nothing to do with Astronomy.
The fact that it's controversial has nothing to do with it. Do you realize LSU has classes (hours and hours of lectures) that discuss Global Warming and they aren't getting the attention this class is getting? You're trying to make it out like it's some sort of censorship, and that's patently false. Nothing is being censored, it's the fact that this isn't part of the curriculum and this prof has decided to change it.
Actually a lecture on astrology as part of the history and development of astronomy wouldn't be entirely out of line in an astronomy course.
